Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 28, 2009 3:35 pm Im planning on tiling my bathroom to the celing. Approx 15sqm needs to be done. Currently there are tiles on the ground and shower area and along the wall 1 tile up. It is a porecelin tile that has been laid. Will anyone be able to give me advice on how to go about doing this yourself? e.g. Do I need to waterproof the wall? What type of glue I should use? Is there anything I should watch out for? Re: How to Tile on a Wall 3Aug 01, 2009 7:29 pm Hi Apeg, If you want to keep the existing tiles, before you tile the walls apply a bead of silicone to the top of the existing wall tile ( between the tiles and wall). This will prevent water which might go through the grout above to go under the existing tile ( in case you have no water-proof under). It is a good idea to water-proof at least the shower area at least. The simplest method is a oil based undercoat X2. If you want to be technical use Superflex 1 or 3 , Davcoflex with fibreglass, etc. No cement based water-proof ( regardless of the adds) Mapei Kerabond mixed with Isolastic is a good glue, especially if your wall is not straight and you need a buil-up. If wall is good use any wal paste : Abamastic, Ultramastic, etc. Carefull with pastes, they do not dry out if thicker than 5 mm. Make sure your tiles are straight and no lips in between. Always check with spirit level. Do one wall at a time. If you want to remove tiles, smash them first slightly with a hammer ( otherways the wall lining will be too damaged after removal). If wall / floor is too uneven, straight them up with Kerabond and Isolastic. Good luck Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
