Re: Any recommendations for a good ironing board? 22Jul 30, 2009 8:22 pm donuts vid We have a Hills one we got from Bunnings they have about 4 different sizes I think ours is the 2nd largest, we have a really thick FELT pad (not foam) and don't have any problems with the "ridgey marks" , I think all the Hills ones have a mesh type back. I am a bit lazy and buy wrinkle free shirts, In the summer I still give them a slight iron but in this colder weather when wearing a jacket I don't bother. vid thanks for that, maybe I will just get another Hills one if the laurastar thing doesn't work out and look for a felt cover. Where do you get wrinkle free shirts??? Are you talking about men's business shirts? Please share!!! The felt I mention is only the underpad Yes my shirts are business shirts, I usually get the from David Jones but I know other stores have them too, the ones I have bought more recently are Van Heusen but there are quite a few brands who do them, even some normal poly/cotton ones don't need much ironing if you wash them on permanent press and then hang on a coat hanger to dry and they are pretty good in the dryer too! Re: Any recommendations for a good ironing board? 23Jul 30, 2009 9:44 pm OMG ladies (and gentlemen), this forum is fantastic, where else could you find out about that betterlifestyle online store selling that mobile ironing system - fantastic, I never even knew something like that existed! Loved all their ironing boards, but this caught my eye too! http://www.betterlifestyleproducts.com. ... thing.html for $35 - bargain! Love it - I'm sure everyone will ask what it is, one by one! haha A thankful person is a happy person. Then I went and bought some thicking padding just from big w and put it on my ironing board, and it made quiet a big difference. so much easier to iron with a thick pad underneath. thats my 2 cents. Re: Any recommendations for a good ironing board? 25Jul 31, 2009 8:22 am I've had my ironing board since 1980 - can't even remember where I got it, but it was probably Target. It's a metal-mesh one, but it's as solid as a rock and the thick felt pad stops any impressions coming through on the clothes. I have trouble finding decent covers these days though.... Any recommendations? Re: Any recommendations for a good ironing board? 26Jul 31, 2009 10:04 am we don't have a ironing board, we have one of those small ones finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: Any recommendations for a good ironing board? 27Jul 31, 2009 10:05 am kek I got my cover from one of the home shows a couple of years back, it's good and supposed to keep the heat in and iron from the other side of the material yada yada yada, BUT it shows the meshy stuff underneath sometimes. Maybe I'll try apeg's trick and get some thick stuff, need to be careful that the padding isn't flammable and all that though "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. The stand alone ironing board was not too special so I eliminated that immediately. The lady showed me how the whole system works, it did look very impressive and efficient and I am sure I would enjoy ironing a lot more on it. She could do me a deal on the basic model for just over $1000 including the board. wow The more deluxe version was $2000+, that included a fan in the ironing board itself to 'inflate' your clothes before you iron to eliminate the wrinkles you get as you iron, if that makes sense. That one looked really good. I took a brochure and promised to think about it, and I did think about it and think of what strategies I could use to convince DH on the way home. But I decided I could think of heaps more things I woud rather spend the extra $900 on - including one of the lovely Aboriginal paintings that, bizarrely, they sell in the same shop. I didn't think the system looked 10 times better than a normal ironing board plus iron. Just my opinion. I went to Bunnings afterward and bought a Hills 'deluxe' ironing board for $132. It also has a felt underthing. I hope it doesn't break soon! "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Same as what I thought as I wasn't prepared to spend that kind of money on an iron + ironing board - who knows, maybe in future I will. Yes that's exactly what I thought, if I'd never looked I'd never know! One day after I win tattslotto I will get one for sure maybe sooner if I really get sick of the ironing and willing to part with that much money. lisanne Gee you would want to be doing a LOT of ironing for a $1000 ironing board! I thought of it like this: when I iron, I spend as little time as possible on each garment. If there are still a couple of tiny creases near the gathered bits on shirts, I don't stress about it. As long as it looks mostly presentable it's good enough for me. If I was the type to be really pedantic about it, I would spend heaps more time on each piece, and this system would probably save me heaps of time as I would spend just a couple of minutes to get fantastic results, instead of say 10. But right now I spend probably a couple of minutes for item anyway so I wouldn't be saving time, just getting a better result, which isn't a huge priority for me anyway! JL I wondered how long it would take before someone responded to my comments, don't worry I don't iron the jock-n-socks, but I do remember my Mum ironing the sheets when I was a kid. Re: Any recommendations for a good ironing board? 37Aug 13, 2009 9:28 am I am right there with you on the fitted sheets, what a nightmare!! I try to fold them from the corners of the seams, but they still end up half bunched/rolled It got me wondering how the laurastar does on bed linen though. I have often tried to smooth out my doona wrinkles with a hot iron while it's on the bed, but it doesn't work, it's still crinkled as ever! I tackled the mountainous pile of ironing that had accumulated while I was board-less last night, and am so far very pleased. This new board is lots wider than the other one so I can usually fit the kids' tops on it in one go rather than having to move it up to do the part that's hanging off the edge. It also comes up a bit higher which is easier on one's back. And so far no meshy criss crosses. So a happy ending for me. Good luck to you all in your ironing pursuits! Re: Any recommendations for a good ironing board? 38Aug 13, 2009 1:06 pm Hi, what a great thread. Just thought I would add that Robinhood also sell an all in one ironing centre. We have one here in the rented house permanently fixed in the laundry. I really like it as it can house the iron and other bits and bobs. The iron can be plugged in all the time, just have to switch in on and fold down the board. Very quick. However, I find I just use it for the quick iron .. not the big weekly iron I do on a Sunday night If anyone is interested to have a look, just google Robinhood Ironing Centre (also notice that they come up for sale on ebay every now and then). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The comments of fitted sheets made me laugh .. and I would like to share a handy hint I just recently saw on Better Homes and Garden. Basically fold the fitted sheet, top sheet, pillow cases all together and then put them all into the matching pillow case. Such a simple idea, that I had never thought of before, but now fold and store them like that all the time and love how organised my linen cupboard looks (Especially since I have a big family with lots of beds, lots of sheets ......) no more scrounging around for the matching pillow cases or sheets ... and also, when you no longer need the winter ones, just put a cake of soap in them and then when you use them for next winter they smell good (and soap is also a deterent for silverfish).
