So I picked 'would rather buy a new car'...but in reality I wouldnt really do this either actually, I would go on an overseas holiday for 20k Seriously, double glazed windows was part of our 'star rating' (forgotton what the right name is) when the house was designed and I was so glad it was. But if I had an old, period style home and had to replace the rotting windows, then maybe I would pay 20k if and only if it was absolutely neccessary (heating and cooling purposes) and keeping in style with the home. Hope the above dribble makes sense Mrs B Re: Would you replace your old windows with new double glazed? 23Jul 29, 2009 3:46 pm Mrs B Hi Ed I didnt quite know how to answer this as I already have double glazed windows throughout as part of our builders quote. Hi, yes triple glazing is a superior product, provided you maintain appropriate air gaps (or gas gaps for krypton and argon). When would I use it? If I had enough money that the increased level of comfort warranted it. The extra cost would be in the frame material to allow the extra width in the glazing rebate (going from say 20mm to 40mm), and the extra piece of glass. Frankly it should not be the price it is... Windows complete - going from single to double in aluminium... say $100/m2 extra. Ed Of course I would as I see the benefits of double glazing. The only problem would be it may not suit a period home....we use to own one (never again, the biggest money waster ever ) and all our windows had beautiful leadlight throughout. If you had to replace the windows, you would loose a very important feature of the property? Mrs B I don't know them all, the first 2 top of your list are best known.
