Without going into the nitty gritty I can tell you backing up is very important Anyway the good news is that I am now the proud owner of a QNAP TS-409. This little jigger has 4 bays for hard drives and stores everything you need in a really safe (backed up) environment. Also you can upgrade it to a higher version (TS-409 Pro) by doing the few steps indicated on this website: http://george.insideiphone.com/index.php/2008/11/11/how-to-turn-ts-209-ii-into-ts-209-pro-ii/ This clever little hack has allowed you to buy the cheaper unit and fill it with the higher spec features for no extra money. We like the saving This handy little device has a built in bitorrent client (useful for downloading all sorts of files from the net) as well as an emule client. It has an Itunes server built in and also serves DLNA for all your media for the PS3 and XBOX360. If you are looking for a good storage solution with loads of functionality then look no further! link here: QNAP TS-409 http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_feature.asp?p_id=86 Re: Review - My new server - QNAP TS-409... 2Jul 21, 2009 10:16 pm Hey Matt, I'm looking at the ts-409u myself to use as a NAS when we get our home built to put in a networking rack but was also considering the same model you purchased if I decide to keep it in the home office. Any comments you can give on the noise level of the ts-409 you purchased? How loud is it when no other electronics are on? Edit: Sorry just to add to anyone considering buying, please remember a NAS with raid 5 is not a replacement for a good backup. User error can still destroy a raid array easily. Having multiple copies of data is always better. Cheers, Matt PS .... but I have learnt that some redundancy is better than none Re: Review - My new server - QNAP TS-409... 5Jul 22, 2009 8:40 am Hey Matt, Thanks, I read the specs online and noise info but it's always better to find out first hand accounts. If you want to backup relatively cheaply (depending on how much data you have). You can buy an external 1tb or 2tb drive, and just hook it up to your qnap and you should be able to setup a weekly job on the qnap to backup onto the external drive (the qnap runs linux so should be able to rsync, or might even have some built in feature, I haven't checked but the qnap running linux does make it flexible). And depending on how paranoid you are (i.e. if you want to protect family photos, etc), you could even buy 2 and leave one at your workplace/relatives house and swap them monthly so you have a 1 month old backup elsewhere in case you get robbed, etc. Nav it's difficult to make suggestions without accurate information as there are some inconsistencies in the dimensions as the length of the bedrooms is not equal to the… 3 13570 Hi, has anyone installed Resiplank Corsica hybrid flooring, and if so, your review is appreciated.
