We got the Water-tech Sand Filter System (5000 ltr septic tank + sand filter + sub surface disposal area) installed in Januari 2009, for which we payed 12k. This one is not available anymore and the new type of system is around 16K incl GST. Re: Septic Water Treatment Unit 3Jul 13, 2009 11:11 am I wanted the Taylex system but there were issues on my flat site as the intake was too high. The alternative one I wanted was the Biolytix .... came home to find an Icon Septech installed. Not happy they've installed something other than what I wanted, but I've called around my "experts" and they seem to think the Septech is pretty good ... which I hope it will be because I've got no choice now!! Not sure if this goes across all types ... but I was surprised at the amount of drainage lines that had to be put in (200m) ... and how much my lawn has been totally destroyed ... I thought the idea was that you could put the lines on the garden ... apparently you can - once council has inspected it Re: Septic Water Treatment Unit 4Jul 14, 2009 8:02 pm I ended up with a Taylex. We had to get the most expensive one to give the best quality effulent, and because we are in a catchment area for Somerset Dam, we also needed a specially irrigation bed of 400m2 to spray it on. Total cost was about $20,000, and I think the HSTP itself was about $10,000. Paul Re: Septic Water Treatment Unit 5Jul 15, 2009 10:07 am That seems to be common practice, we signed a contract for the Water-tech for 12K, nothing happened for a while until we really needed the system in due to the Council Compliance Permit which was granted for the shed. So we needed to close this application before we could do the same for the house. The guy told me that the system was not available anymore and we could have one for 16K We told him to put the expensive one in but that we were not going to pay the difference. Then he showed up with the original one but started whining about the agreed distance between the fixtures and the Septic tank + Sand Filter, because that is where the money is regarding Plumbing and Electric. We had agreed on putting the whole system on the border of our land. Furthermore we suddenly needed a riser ($800) which we did not know anything about and he blamed the plumber who did the fixtures in the shed for that. Now we got the Septic + Filter (7 x 3 mtr) close to the shed and the disposal area of 320 M2 on the border because that needed to be more than 40 meters away from the Dam. Otherwise he probably would have tried to put that on our doorstep too. It took me 2 weeks to get the septic +riser out of direct view and we can't drive over the filter area. I agree with you they leave a totally disaster behind and at the end you wonder were we went wrong. Very funny business. I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe.
