Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 09, 2009 12:26 am Being a first home buyer, it is very confusing as to what kind of a builder to go for.. just to be on the safer side i preferred big names.. simonds.. metricon.. etc since they have lots of ready floor plans that would fit on my piece and im not very fussy about the floor plan.. no alterations as such.. I am pretty impatient now to sign the contract before sept to take full advantage of the FHBG.. (who wudnt! ) as i already mentioned, the patience is killin me and i wanted to get thing going at its earliest.. (lands already titled @plenty river.. loan application in process.. liked the simonds stirling 2400..paid em 1500 for soil testing subject to site costing) appreciate any thots.. \m/ To do it single handedly.. seriously.. its a PAIN! Re: Big vs Small 3Jul 09, 2009 5:24 pm IMO Bigger builders were cheaper to build with, but I found their customer service pretty crap. We were going to go a big builder but have now gone private instead and he has been very pleasant to deal with. Although he is going to cost us a few thousand more to build our house, but then it's our house and has things how we want. Re: Big vs Small 4Jul 10, 2009 12:55 am tnx guys! i thot building with a smaller one wouldve been cheaper as one could even negotiate some upgrades for free getting much more for what you pay.. but lam says otherwise.. To do it single handedly.. seriously.. its a PAIN! Re: Big vs Small 6Jul 11, 2009 12:13 pm We decided we needed to go for a big builder due to the current econonmic climate. I didnt want to have a smaller builder going bankrupt half way through constuction. Big ones can go down too, but we figured the risk was lower. Re: Big vs Small 7Jul 11, 2009 12:20 pm would have liked to go with a big builder but no one was interested in the narrow slopping block and definetely not in our council area !!! resorted to a reno with small builder (a really great guy) but unfortunately more $$$$ progress viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20401 sculptures viewtopic.php?f=36&t=26607 pole trouble viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25988 Re: Big vs Small 8Sep 19, 2014 7:06 pm Congratulations! There's really nothing like starting on your very own home is there? I rememebr when we first did up our own house with our builder. We were so desperate to get started and we totally overlooked putting enough storage cupboards and holding space in our garage and attic. It's really quite mad how things can escalate if you don't think things through, so I'd advise patience. You want your home to come out the best it can be, so take the time to put thought into different things Hi all, We are looking to build a new two storey house in western Sydney. Can anyone recommend a smallish builder to go with? We are trying to stay away from the big… 0 8384 consider putting in wall WC instead of robe in the same bedroom, then it might be doable to hook up to the existing piping. 4 4634 |
