This is in Northwest Sydney Re: Problem Next door----Help Please 2Jul 07, 2009 9:15 pm I wouldnt worry too much about the tree... perhaps give it to them as a housewarming gift? As for the rubbish, contact the builder directly and ask whether they can try to refrain from dumping rubbish on your site. Mrs B Re: Problem Next door----Help Please 4Jul 07, 2009 9:25 pm Im building new house and is 99% complete. I guess, no harm in having another word with the builder next door, thanks Bam. I did approach him for the tree last time....and ...somebody visited the tree with a chainsaw next day........ Thanks Rhythm As you are building as well, unfortunately it happens to almost all of us here on the forum in some form or another. It certainly does not make it right but it just seems to be 'the way it is' for some builders. Very frustrating and I know many posters become very distressed by this problem. Having a talk is the best option, or better still, you may have to put up a tempoary fence with a sign...Private Property, Dumping of Rubbish prohibited, Offenders will be Prosecuted. That should get the message out loud and clear. Good Luck Mrs B Re: Problem Next door----Help Please 9Jul 07, 2009 10:58 pm My builders have trashed the empty block next door to me. They actually removed the for sale sign so they could get their trucks onto the block, and cleaned out the cemet truck on this property. Some builders have no respect, and they are just using the easiest option. I think you should write a letter, give them a time frame to clean up the mess, and if they dont get it done yourself and send them the bill. They are trespassing after all, they dont have your permission. Re: Problem Next door----Help Please 10Jul 07, 2009 11:48 pm Hmmm the planting the tree part has got me confused lol. I don't understand why they did that? And like some have already said, instead of calling the police or the council the first thing you should do in most situations regarding your neighbours is to talk to them directly...in this case talk to the builder or/and project manager. I know its pretty obvious and you would think most people wouldn't do it, but just ask them to refrain from putting any materials/scraps/rubbish on your land and leaving it there. See how that goes. My builder was a similar one to start with, but once my neighbour brought it to our attention, we spoke with them and they have not repeated that since then. Speak to the Builder and/or the owner of the prospective house. Good Luck Re: Problem Next door----Help Please 12Jul 08, 2009 4:25 pm Rhythm House next door is being built by a builder. Are you saying he removed a tree that was planted in his yard and re-planted it in your yard?? I guess "thanks" is in order? My only concern would have been weather the tree was going to "come out later" to be re-planted back next door!!! I certainly would be kicking up a stink about rubbish being put on your place, after all it's not cheap to get it removed! Re: Problem Next door----Help Please 14Jul 08, 2009 6:46 pm I had a similar problem, when the builders nextdoor to our block were using our block for access and dumping their rubbish on it. We were due to start soon and our builder had told us we needed a clear block and it should be mowed. So I rang the neighbours builder about it, the receptionist was very appologetic and they cleared it up. Then our house started and the temp fence went up after that. So if you ring their builder they will hopefully do something about it. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: Problem Next door----Help Please 15Jul 08, 2009 6:54 pm Eh …..I’d be hiring a small back-ho and pushing it all back onto the centre of their building site. Then send them the bill for it. This was on quite a large block on the metropolitan fringe. But on land over 100hectares you seem to find something weird every once in a while. Rythm tell us how you go with the rubbish... DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes. Re: Problem Next door----Help Please 18Jul 10, 2009 9:09 am Was the tree on council's nature strip ? If so they would of had to move it for the driveway and as a condition of that repanted it back on council's land. In regards to the rubbish, how much is there ? is there not much room on the site ? youd think that they would probably move it when they do a final site clean which cant be too far off if they were pouring the driveway. I'd give them a little bit of time or make a phonecall to the builder . The police is a little bit heavy handed ! Re: Problem Next door----Help Please 19Jul 10, 2009 10:38 am Some builders are just plain disrespectful (The tree part is so weird! Maybe they thought they were being nice?) I've read a few different threads on interesting "dumps" on peoples properties - I recall something about a big boulder? We had a large pile of fill dumped on the black of our block (on the border of ours and our back-neighbours). We paid a significant amount to have our land scraped and all fill removed - only to visit a month or so later and see what must be about 80t sitting there. Of course, our builder wanted nothing to do with it "that is precisely why we don't do the scrape or removal of fill ourselves - it is between you and your contractor". I guess we will use it in our front yard where the land is quite slopey towards the road, but it would've been nice to be able to choose our own soil in our own time! We'll certainly have to move it before fences go up - perhaps we should bill our other neighbour's builder for our labour when we've moved it? All of my rellies etc. recommended not saying anything - not worth getting off on the wrong foot before we even move in. "It's only a bit of soil" a few said. I keep reminding myself a few months after we've moved in I'll have forgotten all about it. Its the principal more than anything - if only builders could use the thought process of "how would I like this done if this was my block/house/etc" - I think building would be a much more enjoyable experience for all! Good luck, Rhythm - I hope you find a resolution without too much cost or effort on your part. If you do complain or enquire about the rubbish to the builder and get no action - perhaps the neighbour can complain for you? Most reasonable people would be pretty disgusted or annoyed to hear that their builder is treating their neighbours blocks this way!
