Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 04, 2009 2:40 pm We want a higher fence so that we have privacy, however we are having a colorbond fence and it only comes in 2.1m and 1.8m heights. We are only allowed 2m. Would you: a)cut the 2.1m colorbond to 2m - therefore taking off 10mm in height. b)put 20mm of timber beneath the colorbond to raise a 1.8m height to 2m. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12682&hilit=fence+colorbond Donuts has done this with their side fence - pics on this link. c)put lattice on top of a 1.8m fence. If this option, how much does lattice cost? http://colorbond.autech.com.au/onlinevi ... esidential Pics of lattice on this website. Thanks. Re: 2m colorbond fence options 2Jul 04, 2009 3:15 pm Not sure what you should do, but we have the 1.8 m colorbond fence and being 1.78 m tall myself it seems pretty high to me, and since it's not touching the ground in some spots, it's closer to 1.9m all done. I think it's pretty private, you really have to be wanting to see over to be able to....ie a chair or ladder, there is no way we can accidentally see over. Why isn't 1.8 enough? Re: 2m colorbond fence options 3Jul 04, 2009 4:20 pm I was just about to say 'Option B cause we did this' but I see you already know that! I think it was cheaper to do this than get the metal all the way. I also think I read somewhere in a gardening topic or something recently where you would have to put something between the metal and the soil if the metal goes all the way down, otherwise it rusts?? I can't remember where though. Not sure if I interpreted it incorrectly and whether it's right or not though. Bam Option B because of the soil/gravel issue whatever that issue is, it sounds like what I was going on about "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. They provided it; we had to paint it! Excellent! Now I know I can ask my future fencer to supply it because I want to do the same kind of thing 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Re: 2m colorbond fence options 9Jul 05, 2009 12:12 pm Thank you all for the quick replies. We want a 2m fence so that we have privacy and so we cannot see into the neighbours house when we're inside our house and visa-versa. I've just done some research and it says that you cannot have soil up against the colorbond fence as this causes corrosion. However, I have also found out that if you put treated timber against a colorbond fence, this can also cause corrosion! Seems like we cannot win! Has anyone ever got colorbond professionally cut? I'm a bit worried about it being uneven. Re: 2m colorbond fence options 12Jul 10, 2009 10:56 am We have decided! 1.8 colorbond with 20cm wood underneath the fence, bringing it up to 2m. We did a lot of driving around and found that a lot of houses have used this. We are just going to paint it the colour of the fence and have plants growing near to it to screen the wood (which is what we wanted anyway). I have found that the colorbond is often not placed against the ground as you cannot have soil on the bottom of it as it causes corrosion. Never thought that I'd stress so much about a fence! Hopefully it looks good - will find out soon Re: 2m colorbond fence options 13Jul 10, 2009 11:10 am Once our slab went down we discovered our house is now much higher than our surrounding neighbours so we have to have ours built up with either a concrete plinth or concrete sleepers, this was we don't have the problem of it being on the soil but just means it's going to cost a fortune!! You could probably get a small plinth done, it just depends on the budget! Re: 2m colorbond fence options 14Jul 13, 2009 2:27 pm beans with 20cm wood underneath the fence Careful now....Termites??? Pat. Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10209 Hi all, Our boundary perimeter fences need replacing (3 sides). From everyone's experience, what would you install? Timber lapped and capped OR colorbond? Thank you. 0 2880 You should pressure clean your roof first and make sure the paint you buy also is anti mould. 4 18565 |
