Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 03, 2009 12:07 pm Hi, I recently purchased a whiz-bang BioLock for my new house for the pricey sum of $500. What should have been a relatively straight forward installation has turned out to be somewhat of a costly nightmare. Out of the box, the door handle is configured for a right hand side hinged door. However, my door is left hand side hinged. Now one would think that it would be a relatively simple exercise to flip the door handles around right? The first attempt at installation resulted in having to push the handle up (instead of down) to open the door, so obviously something was amiss. In trying to fix this, a little metal nip which held the spring in place to return the handle into the horizontal position broke off. So now my brand new door handle was sagging down. I accept full responsibility for this little mishap and figured that I’ll just call up Co\/etek for a replacement part. They advise me that they do not keep any spare parts and the best solution that they can offer me is for me to send in my BioLock, they take apart one of their new BioLocks, change the part over for me and send it back to me. Of course I would have to pay for the labour, part and freight costs which was quoted at $150. Fair enough I figured, so I sent it in. A week later I receive a call from Co\/etek, to tell me that the handle has now been fixed. But when they tested it to ensure everything was OK, they discovered another problem. Apparently the fingerprint sensor wasn’t working and one of the wires has come off the circuit board. I know absolutely nothing about this new issue, but worse still, they tell me that they are in no position to repair this at all. They would have to send it back to the manufacturer for repairs (quote $300) or supply me with a new unit (quote $350). I am in no position to spend a further $300-350 for repairs/replacement, and quite frankly, I am shocked at the quote (60+% of my original purchase price) I now have possession back of a nice shiny $500 door stop. Can anyone advise what I can do from here? As distributors, should they have a supply of spare parts and/or proper repair service? Do you know of anyone that can repair this for a reasonable amount? NB: Please note that this post is not defamatory against Co\/etek or any of their products, but merely a statement of facts as they have occurred. I am now after advice on what my options are for getting my door stop repaired. Cheers, R. That drawing’s in the old units.
