Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 03, 2009 12:42 am Hey, I'd like to know if my WIW is large enough, conidering it is in a Duplex not a house. Id also love to see some pics of WIW if anyone wants to show them? At the moment the size on the plan is 3.4m by 2.3m. What do you all think? We also are having a built-in that will be 2.5m. I did a search and found nothing btw. DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes. Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 3Jul 03, 2009 4:21 am Ours is on our blog but its about 3.3 x 2.5 and big enough for two of us - plus all my makeup and beauty products . Works well and we love it But it is also nice to have a big bedroom and ensuite. Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 4Jul 03, 2009 7:23 am Ours about 1.5 x 3.8 daughters 2.3 x 1.5 Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 5Jul 03, 2009 8:29 am Our is going to be 3.6m x 3.8m... Enough room to have shelves etc around the perimeter, and a small boy in the centre of the room... Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 6Jul 03, 2009 9:03 am 3.6 x 3.8 is bigger than many entire bedrooms Quote: At the moment the size on the plan is 3.4m by 2.3m. Mandystoj, that sounds plenty to me, our WIR is 2.4 x 2.1 and has hanging rail on both sides and the back, comfortably fits my clothes hanging one side and DH's the other, with some shirts on the back rail, above-rail shelf all the way around, which holds bags, suitcases , bits and pieces, and we have 2 side by side free standing tallboys at the back, one each. Our shoes are on shoe racks under our clothes. We also have a dressing table with a mirror in the bedroom itself. The WIR does not have a window and has only its entry door - ie no thru door to ensuite as some do. That is plenty of room for our things (perhaps we just dont have that many clothes ) and even to get dressed in there as well if we want to - if the other partner is sleeping, for example. I have seen many smaller WIR's than this, sometimes they only have one side and back but I think that would be a squeeze for 2 people's things. As well as how many clothes/belongings you have, I guess the other questions would be whether you lose any space due to windows, mirrors, or doors going to ensuite and what you want to do in there - ie just store things or get dressed or put makeup etc on - not sure what else people would want to do in WIRs but have seen some with ottomans or even small couches Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 7Jul 03, 2009 9:07 am Mine is about 3 x 1.8 which is plenty big enough for the two of us. We actually slightly reduced it to make for a bigger ensuite as i'd prefer the extra room in there. Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 9Jul 03, 2009 9:20 am who tiles the WIR? i am as i found walking from the bathroom to carpet robe in my last house was so bad especialy if say your feet where a little dirty and they got wet in the bathroom . Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 10Jul 03, 2009 9:33 am No, ours is carpet but then ours has its own separate entry direct from the bedroom so you walk over bedroom carpet to get from ensuite to WIR anyway - I guess if ensuite opens directly into WIR you could continue the tiles from the bathroom, but I have never seen it. Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 11Jul 03, 2009 9:40 am i have bought the tiles out of the batroom into the bedroom and then into the WIR they will just put a nice edge where the carpet meets the tiles in the bedroom Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 12Jul 03, 2009 9:45 am We have two. One is 1.7 x 1.5 and the other is 2.6 x 1.5. It's not nearly enough space, and yes, I have a lot of clothes, but I also culled them by at least a third when we moved. Maybe once I get the robes fitted out properly.... Whether it's big enough or not depends on what you'll be putting in it. Importantly, do you have plenty of other storage in the house? Because if not, you'll end up with suitcases, Christmas decorations, extra linen and various boxes of stuff in there that won't fit anywhere else.... Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 13Jul 03, 2009 11:50 am Mandystoj, here is a link to a thread where people have posted their entire floorplans. May give you some ideas of how much space people are allocating in different size homes. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18167&hilit=+plan+thread Our house will be around 40sq and the master has two WIR.... one is 1.7 x 1.51...... the other is 2.61 x 1.45. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 14Jul 03, 2009 1:39 pm Ours is 3.22m x 3m and will have cupboards around the perimeter of 3 walls. Also have an ottoman in the centre of the room. DD's is 2m x 1.5m. The only reason she is having one is because of the cavity created between her ensuite and ours - so instead of a built in she gets a WIR. We also have a 2m long BIR in our bedroom as well - but this is having 4 shelves and no hanging space as I plan to use it for storing our sheets / blankets / towels, leaving the walk in linen for the kids linen / towels. A large WIR is only fine in my opinion as long as your bedroom is also as spacious. Can't see the point in having a WIR bigger then your bedroom. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 15Jul 03, 2009 11:30 pm Thanks for all your lovely replies! I am going to leave my WIR that size (2.3x3.4) as I have a 2.5m built in aswell as other storage across the duplex. Milly_monster I was actually going to tile my WIR because it has an open entry to the walk in and then an entry into the ensuite and will sort of be 'open plan', although now thinking of it I can;t see why it would look bad if I carpet the WIR like my room and then tile the ensuite. Im not sure yet....depends if i want the area to look more like 'one' and not separate rooms. DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes. Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 17Jul 08, 2009 6:21 pm Pisces i think having carpet in the bedroom flow into the WIR creates the illusion that the floor space of the bedroom itself look bigger. Yes i agree. i am now confused . But on the other hand, having the WIR tiled gives the illuision that the wir and ensuite area is massive and sort of one and separate from the bedroom. I dont know!! I know this sound silly, but I actually can't understand why some display homes I have seen have massive master bedrooms and small WIR and the rest of the rooms are miniture. I am choosing to spread the floor space around to other bedrooms and into my ensuite/wir, but my master bed for a duplex is big enough at 4.6x4.3 (not including the built in). Will be a change from my room atm at home but oh well. DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes. Re: What are the dimensions of your walk in wardrobe???? 19Jul 15, 2009 7:35 pm jodge Hello again Mandy. . . ours is 4.5 x 2.3m. . . I wanted bigger, but we just couldn't fit it in. . .boooooo. Thats great jodge, it will look so nice, but ofcourse you would have rathered bigger! I have actually made room for a builtinalso in my room, so I'm thinking our everyday clothes will be in WIR and our nicer clothes in the builtin! I have got my tape measure out and measured my builtin in my room atm and it should be fine, about 4m of space per person is a great amount I think. Our builder just puts up a shelf and rail. . . we're happy with that in the other bedrooms, but we're going to tackle the master WIR ourselves. . . I want a few different configurations of hanging rails, drawers and shelves. Normally you use builders bog. Polyurethane painting is basically the same principle as car panel beating and painting.
