Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 13, 2009 4:56 pm I see so many new houses putting the Solar hot water panels on every conceivable side of the roof, if its not on the north side you will be wasting your time. We installed Solar hot water some years ago and it faces north, yet in winter it still runs out of hot water and thats with 3 panels on the roof. Re: Solar hot water panels. 3Jun 13, 2009 6:51 pm Emzy Doesnt the gas kick in after the solar powered heat runs out? So then you would still have hot water?? Not if you don't have gas. But my dad and my uncle-in-law reckon its definitely a problem. Is condensation in a panel a bad thing? Sorry to redirect the discussion, just thought it might have been a relevant topic rather than start a new one along the same lines. As for the boost on ours, we're hoping to hook it up to an offpeak 2 tariff and have a switch in the switchboard in the laundry we can turn on to heat some water if we run out of solar. Will be interesting to see how it works once we move in.
