Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 13, 2009 1:18 pm Hi everyone Im wondering whether those of you who have their WIR form part of their facade would mind posting up a pic of their facade? Does that makes sense? Basically, our WIR wall will be part of our facade. At the moment, it has no window but rather a skylight. But George and I have come to the realisation that it needs a window/s as it forms the fron of our house and will look ridiculous with a big blank brick wall. So Im trying to get ideas on the type of windows people have put in their WIR when it is part of the facade. I hope that makes sense and I havent confused people more Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 2Jun 13, 2009 1:26 pm Hi Bam Our WIR is part of the facade so I get what you mean but don't know if I can be of much help as the window we are putting in is one of 8 that are the same across the front of the house. Eg 4 windows front door and then another 4 windows. They are all awning windows. JL Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 3Jun 13, 2009 1:29 pm Bam, I won't have that, but this M3trcon house, the Windarra has the robe at the front. If you go to the facades, there's quite a few options that may give you ideas. This is the link to the facades... just put M3tricon in place of the *... this site filters the word. http://www.metricon.com.au/victoria/hom ... fault.aspx I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 4Jun 13, 2009 1:54 pm Thanks for that joles and houseofl - Id love to be able to see how they structure the shelving etc in the WIR around the window and whether it eats alot of space I was originally planning on putting a fulllength mirror on the wall, will need to find another spot for it now! I guess what Im debating is what the best option is. Im not sure if I want a window in the WIR that people can see through, especially given that our ensuite is opposite and Im planning on doing the walk from the shower in the nuddie to the WIR to get clothes. Are people planning on putting curtains on their and leaving the curtains down? Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 5Jun 13, 2009 3:43 pm Im not sure a WIR needs a window or a skylight - unless you are going to do more in there than just store your clothes, shoes etc , ours doesnt and not a problem and neither do many that I see and often it would be impossible to have a window because there is no external wall . I have not seen skylights in WIR's either but I guess you could do one. Anyway if you dont actually want a window (and I agree, there are drawbacks to haveing especially one at the front of the house but loss of usable wall space in any case ) could you put an external feature on the outside wall instead -so that the front wall doesnt look a "ridiculous big blank wall"? Lateral thinking Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 6Jun 13, 2009 3:59 pm Hi Bam, Possibly not quite what you were after as our's is double storey, but the WIR is the window on the top right. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I plan on having white plantations for the whole of the facade (7 windows), so they can easily be shut for privacy. I plan on just keeping the clothes in there and not actually dressing in there...but we'll see once we move in! I'd also need to walk through the bedroom to get to the WIR, but I'll most likely get my clothes first, then have a shower and get dressed in the bedroom!! The window is actually situated in the walk through part to the WIR, not in any of the storage space itself, so building around the window won't be a problem! Good luck with your dilema! The three small square windows are the robe.

I will match these small windows to the bedroom windows (I'm looking at slimline aluminium venetians or timber venetians) and will the leave the robe ones closed all the time. I am also considering tinting all these windows too. Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 8Jun 13, 2009 4:15 pm Thanks Stormy Helyn as it is, I get up before the man of the house. We dont currently have an ensuite or WIR so I get up, get all my bits and piece and go to the bathroom and then go to the study to get changed to keep the noise to a minimum. So Im assuming that of we have the ensuite and WIR, instead of trampling across the house with everything I would just keep to these areas so as not to disturb him. Fairy blue, I like the three small windows! I guess it will be easier to work out what type of windows once I know the measurements Are you getting window coverings? And I suppose windows would ensure that I kept the WIR neat and tidy Or you know what? Maybe Ill just ask him to think of something different where the WIR doesnt form part of the front wall. Perhaps I should post a pic of the sketch and see what people think... Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 11Jun 13, 2009 4:24 pm Thanks fb I was thinking about tinting, but our estate wont let us. I was worried about it looking weird having the blinds closed all the time, but it wouldnt with such small windows. An your entry to the WIR is hwere the door is too, which is great - doesnt cause a storage problem Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! You will just lose that bit of hanging at the end but it looks like you will still have plenty. Now, can you solve the problem of where the full length mirrors goes All the doors in this area in my house are sliding!! Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 13Jun 13, 2009 4:33 pm We're changing the ensuite door to a sliding Was sugested by a friend/forum member If we have a large wall the small windows might look odd though And I could be over-fretting also... Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 14Jun 13, 2009 4:48 pm Just brain storming, but what about a highlight window? It would run vertically at the top of the wall, or even two of them, with a gap in between. Maybe lower and evenly spaced. Does that make sense? This is our activity room with a highlight window, sorry it's not a great pic, really hard to photograph but it will give you an idea. Especially if the wall is fairly wide and square windows wouldnt suit. Thanks fb! Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! There's one in Hawkstowe....they have lovely window coverings. Sheets. They must have been in there 12 months and still sheets.... Anyway, I think it has shelves/rails either side, but not across the end against the front wall. PM me if you want to know where it is and drive by... Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 17Jun 13, 2009 6:04 pm hi Bam, Suddenly think if you've a sliding door for the ensuite, is it possilbe to install the full height mirror on that door ( Then it acts as a door and also a mirror on the WIR side) For wir, maybe u can go to laurimar display village, Cairnlea Homes has the wir next to the masterbedroom, somehow like urs. Go to see it at the front, but I can't recall if it has a window at the front. However, it has a long thin horizontal window on the second frontage. Also, the new Simonds display in MV , one of the four houses ( not the two storey one) also have WIR at the back of the bedhead wall of masterbed, but again, can't recall the front look. Maybe u can go and check. By the way, if not having a window, maybe have some decoration, like hanging a steel art/ garden decorations on wall nott Spring is here! Hurray! Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 18Jun 13, 2009 6:08 pm How about deleting the shelf across the end and doing something like this: http://www.timandtha.com/Baertschi/Main%20House/Walk%20in%20Wardrobe.jpg (pic's too big to post directly - sorry) Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 19Jun 13, 2009 6:48 pm If you want a window for light in the room and/or appearance of the facade, I think Fairy Blue's idea is the winner - a high window like that wont be a privacy problem (unless you are really tall ) and wont lose much usable space - you could easily have shelves, cupboards or even a low rail hanging under the window. I know what you mean about getting up early before your partner - DH and I both being shift workers, we are in this situation all the time - sometimes I do get dressed in the WIR so as not to turn bedroom light on when he is still asleep - but I'm only turning WIR light on for such a short time that I dont think electricity usage is an issue. Re: Those of you who have their WIR wall as part of their facade 20Jun 13, 2009 6:50 pm Hi Bam I am having dual roller blinds on all the windows across the front of the house - this way light will still come in whilst people outside cannot see in. I can't attach my plan - it isn't allowing me. My plan is on my thread though. JL https://form.jotform.com/240284569218058 Please spare a moment to fill out this survey form for a project.
