Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 10, 2009 6:37 pm Ok so we got a phone call today from one of the guys we had quote us on our front fence. We basically need someone to come and rip down the old timber fence that seperates us and the neighbors - we have 53m in total of fencing that needs to be ripped down and we are just after standard 1.8m high timber paling fencing here. The cheapest quote we have is $60/m (which includes removal of old fence) Does this sound ok?? The other part we need is the front fence. We have been quoted around $4300 (will get exact figure tomorrow) for a front fence in merbau timber slats positioned horizontally with silver posts in between. Also for two side gates approx 1.8m high on either side of the property. This will also include a sliding gate at the driveway entrance - we can get it motorised for approx $1600, but we figure we can do this later. This quote is for just under 16m... Does this sound ok? We had another guy lined up to do a quote but he stood us up twice so we gave him the flick. I am running out of time to get it done so want to make a decision fairly quickly and just wanted to make sure this is reasonable.....around $7500 for the lot, merbu front fence with sliding gate, two merbu side gates and 53m of standard timber paling fences including removal of old fences. I had originally budgeted $5000 for fencing....shows what I know My karma ran over your dogma Re: What are you paying for fencing? 2Jun 10, 2009 9:55 pm I don't know about the costing for the front fence, but the side one costs approx $50 per metre so the extra $10 is probably for removing the old one? Sounds about right to me Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, and professionals built the Titanic." Re: What are you paying for fencing? 3Jun 10, 2009 10:19 pm We have quoted for 6 foot colorbond fencing with one double and one sigle gate, it's costing us about $7000, I think it worked out to be just over 100? sqmtrs, can't remember exactly, I just remembered the cost. Re: What are you paying for fencing? 4Jun 11, 2009 9:15 am Thanks guys Hels - yep they said $50 for the standard paling and then an additional $10 to remove the old one....seems to be pretty standard. I wasn't sure about the front one but it seems like my quote is similar to others which is good My karma ran over your dogma Re: What are you paying for fencing? 6Jun 12, 2009 7:48 am I didn't realise it cost so much either how annoying Re: What are you paying for fencing? 7Jun 12, 2009 9:04 am Me either guys Not until I remember reading Donut's post about her fence costing around $10k!! That is the other problem with ours - the house on one side of us is abandoned so we can't chase them up to get their payment and the neighbours at the back we haven't spoken to yet, but they are elderly and it wouldn't surprise me if they couldn't afford to pay We need both fences done, as while they are technically still standing they have parts missing and one is on a lean which our dog would clean jump over! My karma ran over your dogma Re: What are you paying for fencing? 8Jun 12, 2009 9:46 am I got a quote for 1.8m high colorbond @ $65 a metre, I didnt think this was 2 bad but for a single gate is $950 and $1500 for a double. Fencing is very expensive!!! We hope to share this cost with our neighbours. Fencing is very expensive!!! We hope to share this cost with our neighbours. Stephen I got quoted $80/m for colorbond fencing, which makes it $5600 which is cheaper than the timber you were quoted. Does that sound right ? Cheers Re: What are you paying for fencing? 11Jun 13, 2009 9:02 pm Wow!! So fencing is expensive I guess our quote seems quite reasonable then, will book him for the job I think, he is very good at what he does I would have thought colorbond was more than timber though FND, you are getting charged around $88/m for timber fencing? Is this just standard 1.8m high paling fencing that you would use for neighbouring houses? I thought the going rate was about $50/m or $60/m if you also need removal of an old fence. $88/m seems steep My karma ran over your dogma Re: What are you paying for fencing? 12Jun 14, 2009 10:12 am OMG I have not budgeted enough then! My builder told me to aim for about the $4600 mark. Thats for all 3 sides. So is the trick to wait until your neighbours start building then you start so your not dumped with the full cost? The fencing have timber capping, exposed posts and double sided paling. It is the requirement of the estate to have this kind of fence. I personally would prefer a colorbond fence. and now that I realise that colordbond fencing is actually cheaper, I wondering if the contractor has overcharged us! Thanks for the information haywgl. I think I will look around for more quotes first. $88/m is very steep for me Stephen Williams Landing Stage 10 - Kingwell Neighbourhood Re: What are you paying for fencing? 15Jun 15, 2009 10:18 am Eljay OMG I have not budgeted enough then! Re: What are you paying for fencing? 16Jun 15, 2009 10:25 am We're paying $50m, 1.8m capped timber fence. Our fencer guy bills the neighbours directly, so so far we've only had to pay for the LHS to be done as the RHS owners have yet to come to the party. We had a few quotes fromt he few mobs that are doing the fences in our estate and they were all about equal. Who owns the adjacent blocks? I thought the cheapest option would be to wait until all the owners had started to build. That way I could just pay my half, instead of having to pay for all 3 sides to be done and then chase them for their half.
