Browse Forums General Discussion Re: hot water pipe material 2May 24, 2009 3:00 pm paulhend i want to run hot water pipe from an outside hw tank to an outdoor sink . What choices do i have ,,,,,,,,poly or copper?????? You can use either copper or plastic pipes like reheau. Both have benefits. If its underground better to use copper as it will last longer. Re: hot water pipe material 4May 24, 2009 3:30 pm paulhend thanks for the reply going undr a deck so would prefer poly due to cost. Have googled reheau without succes Woud it help if I spelt it correctly this time? Try rehau... with this product though you may need a special tool. Also try googling yorkflex. This one has a 'push-fit' fitting, lot easier than rehau. It has push-fit connections which go directly between copper and the plastic pipe. Re: hot water pipe material 12May 25, 2009 7:50 pm ChrisL vvs mand You cant connect direct to the HW unit using Poly pipe. You need to run the last meter in copper on both hot and cold. So, this is no good then? IMGP1830.JPG As long as there is 1m of copper pipe between those fittings and the HWS then that should be ok. The 1m distance is needed to stop excessive heat transferring from the HSW to the plastic pipe. Re: hot water pipe material 13May 26, 2009 7:25 am Quote: Lower line is the cold water supply. Upper line is the hot water line. Instantaneous HWS connects to the two long brass fittings. NO. It looks to me like its less than one meter. Between those two threads and the Instantaneous unit will be less than 1 mter. The unit will sit less than 300mm above the threads. I use Auspex and the supplier of that, Reece, encourage you to use 2 meters although believe I meter is the manufacturer's specification. (hard to tell from the pics, but I think that pipe in the pic, might be Auspex)I always believe its Its better to err on the side of caution, as excess heat may fatigue the pipe over many years. Although I have seen Auspex taken direct to the unit, without adverse affect, but who knows what will happen after 10 years use? Its hard to tell from the pics, but make sure the pipe size to the unit is 20mm for both hot and cold.
