When the slab was done and the flooring for the base of the house, I can remember thinking that it was way too small. It wasn't till the frame was done that we realised that the house is actually pretty big!! Re: Did your slab look really small? 6May 23, 2009 5:26 pm Ours looked way too small at slab and frame stages. Then the bricks went on and it looked even smaller. Once the plaster was up though, as Kexkez said, it looked HUGE. Now if only I felt the same way about our mortgage.... lol I hear you... we were allowed around $600k but only took out about $425 and I'm still a bit panicky about it -S Re: Did your slab look really small? 11May 23, 2009 6:41 pm our slab look small even to the point I thought I would need to get rid of half the furniture I was a little dissapointed. It was not until the frame was up and the plaser was in that it didnot look small finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: Did your slab look really small? 12May 23, 2009 10:44 pm Oh yes, I nearly panicked at the size of our slab, our house is not huge at 190sqm but not exactly tiny either. I had sinking feeling I had made a huge mistake! But it got bigger as the walls went up and it's a perfect size now for the 4 of us and have even had people say what a big house it is. I even asked the building super if it was normal to feel this way and they made me feel like i was a nutter by saying people didn't normally say that about their slabs.. That made me panic even more for a while..... It's all a perception thing.. Re: Did your slab look really small? 13May 23, 2009 11:27 pm Dragonfly I even asked the building super if it was normal to feel this way and they made me feel like i was a nutter by saying people didn't normally say that about their slabs.. That made me panic even more for a while..... We told our builder the slab looked too small and he said everyone thinks so, it'll all be good once the frame goes up. It was funny how it varied as different things were added. Same thing happened with the next house but then we knew to expect it. Re: Did your slab look really small? 15May 24, 2009 9:01 am Same here...we hit panick mode wondering where everything would fit. Once the gyprock go up it it looks much bigger....then when the furniture goes in it looks bigger again...as weird as it sounds it's true. Re: Did your slab look really small? 16May 24, 2009 9:37 am I'm with everyone else it. It wasn't until the plaster went up that the house looked bigger. I'm glad you mentioned about the furniture SuH because I still think my lounge is a bit too small (but couldn't change it anyway because of setback) but now looking forward to getting some furniture in and making it look bigger. Re: Did your slab look really small? 17May 24, 2009 10:53 am to_do_list When we built previously (a house I'd designed) I was pretty happy with most of it except I thought I'd stuffed up the master bedroom...I had to lie down on the slab and get DW to measure to make sure the bed would fit with the ample space I thought it would... ...it did... Glad i'm not the only one! After our frame went up I was also worried about the size of the master bedroom. We went back in the dark with a torch and tape measure, just so that i could confirm everything was ok!! Re: Did your slab look really small? 18May 24, 2009 11:00 am Definitely! I think I made DH pace out one of the rooms. Same when the frame started to go up. Once the walls get solid it really comes together - obviously! When I had my slab party I was showing my friends where the rooms would go and I wasn't sure how 2 bedrooms were going to fit down the back part. So there was some random, non-committal waving of the arms when describing where the rooms were ("there will be 2 bedrooms *waves arms in a circular shape* here, somewhere" ). TDL I did the same thing in my bedroom It looked so tiny that I was worried about getting even a double bed in there! But I lay on the floor and then moved down to where the end of the bed would be, stood up and figured actually it was ok lol. Re: Did your slab look really small? 20May 24, 2009 2:40 pm We had our slab party yesterday, and everyone thinks ours looks huge but we initially did think it was big but the more we look at it the smaller it seems to get, the only things that still seem big is the garage and the laundry.
