Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 12, 2009 10:54 am I am in North Shore, Sydney and I am having the hardest time getting tradesmen! I am doing a small remodel so I don't need a licensed builder. I have finally found a plumber for the bathrooms and a tiler and I think I may now have an electrician but I desperately need a carpenter to remove two walls, install an internal sliding glass door and install two large external bi-fold doors. I have had 4 people come out to give a quote and after months have only received one quote that was grossly overpriced. (By the way what would you consider reasonable $ for this small job?) My husband travels a lot for work so we can not DIY. Does anyone have any ideas? These were all tradespeople that were recommended in some way or another. I am concerned about just ringing around via the yellow pages but maybe this is what I should do. I so need and want this renovation to get started. I am so frustrated by the whole thing and it is really yet to begin! Re: Renovation...I don't think it will ever be done 2May 12, 2009 11:02 am Sorry we could help but where in Melbourne, kitchen and bathroom reno's are one of our specialties. From the info given i could speculate that it may cost you some where between $500 and $2000 depending on a number of factors. Then how much you wanted to do yourself, load bearing, materials required etc My pet hate when people don't respond, when you ask for a quote etc. Even as a Builder myself i have the same problems sometimes.......i feel your pain If you post some pics that would give me a better indication of what you have to work with. The funny thing people say is building is slow.. well where are all the GOOD trades people ??? I feel your pain.. Re: Renovation...I don't think it will ever be done 6May 12, 2009 6:15 pm I don't know if I like Service Central at all. I always get fools out and they end up quoting me a LOT more than the local company I end up calling out in absolute frustration as a final port of call. Some of the quotes I have been given for things are absolutely ridiculous. I too only have small jobs and it's really hard to find people interested in taking them on. We would have renovated our kitchen and bathrooms months ago if we could just find someone decent to do it... Their all working as they run off word of mouth advertising. Maybe go into some places that supply raw materials to tradesmen and ask them if they know of any good ones - normally you get some decent leads this way. No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6632 I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15275 I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this?
