Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 10, 2009 10:49 am Ok, my lovely wife and I are now 'debating' the need for an external sink. I have visions of my childhood were I would get extremely messy and how useful an external sink was. My DW believes that this is another thing to keep clean.... I am interested what other people are doing about this, are you using it for the Alfresco area or do you just go inside ??? May even put one in the Cave - AKA Garage ?? As always, Steve * Are we there yet ? Demolition has come and gone ! yippeeee..hang on that was months ago !! come on Mr Builder, dig a hole at least Finaly ! Hole Dug ! well done darren 20/06/2010. We're having one in the garage - if we ever get around to installing it.... Our builder provided capped hot & cold water points to the rear garage wall and a waste point in the slab and all we have to do is buy a basic steel laundry trough and a mixer tap, plus a few plumbing bits and pieces and it's all go. Beer brewing, bike repairs and rebuilds, car repairs, cleanups after gardening or DIY, cleaning the BBQ plates and accessories.... There are lots of reasons to have a sink you can mess up and not have to worry about splashing crud all over your nice floor or benches or splashback. And if it's dirty, do I care? Re: Where to put your outside sink ? 4May 10, 2009 4:27 pm hehe got a his and hers The his is a little further away, I clean fish there ...and apparently do all things smelly there. The hers' is outside the laundry I get to mess that up too hehe Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Where to put your outside sink ? 6May 10, 2009 5:28 pm Helyn We only have sinks inside, not a problem for us. Depends on your lifestyle, I guess Or how much of a disgusting pig your husband is.... No WAY is he cooking up those stinky grains and hops and other stuff he brews beer from in my kitchen!! Re: Where to put your outside sink ? 7May 10, 2009 5:46 pm Harsh word kek ( I hear where you coming from ) so I take it you don't drink beer then?? Re: Where to put your outside sink ? 8May 10, 2009 5:49 pm onc_artisan Harsh word kek ( I hear where you coming from ) so I take it you don't drink beer then?? Maybe it's just the brewing, as opposed to the beer. I know a lot of people can't stand the strong smell of yeast from brewing. Re: Where to put your outside sink ? 9May 10, 2009 5:53 pm Agreed and no I don't drink beer Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Where to put your outside sink ? 10May 10, 2009 5:55 pm Now I may be way off base here.... so I'm hoping someone can clarify. I remember being told somewhere along the line of this building journey that any outside sink that will be used for food preperation purposes must be undercover due to health regulations. Obviously this doesn't matter for a laundry type sink, but one for a bbq etc has to be undercover. Can someone clarify? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Re: Where to put your outside sink ? 12May 10, 2009 6:06 pm joles - got no idea, but sounds like work creation to me. Maybe a bird might poop on it Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Where to put your outside sink ? 13May 10, 2009 6:26 pm Dunno Joles - I don't think any rules apply in your own home, but in a commercial situation it might be true. Mind you, in Bangkok, they have some interesting restaurant kitchens - a couple of bbqs set up on the footpath outside is apparently quite OK. The locals were eating there and the food was good, so we were game... And no, I don't drink beer, but that's not the point - it's the brewing smells I object to, not the beverage itself. Pee-uw! My husband had a good thing going in our old shed: brewing set-up, fridge (with Guinness tap in the door and gas cylinders connected to kegs inside), sink, power, kettle, radio, stereo, TV...I hardly used to see him. He has BIG plans for the garage. He can sit there with his beloved bikes and his beer, and he'll be perfectly happy. Although, only my shopper bike will be in the garage, the others have their own room in the hosue 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' My road bike gets a berth there, but my Avanti hybrid has been relegated to the back yard. How rude. Anyone had one of these done recently? Not sure if they are straight forward and easy… 0 746 Have had stone benches with undermount sink (kitchen) and drop-in (laundry) and top-mounted basin (bathrooms) for coming up 13 years and not one chip/scratch of any kind.… 2 9655 |
