Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 20, 2007 8:38 am We're about to start building a 35m² deck on the front of our house and I'm after some opinions. I've done some research and have decided to use stainless screws. The upside is that it'll last a lifetime. The downside is that they may be somewhat unattractive (that said, I've never actually noticed screws on a deck)....
Obviously, they'll be countersunk - is it advisable to putty over them, or am I just being anal? Look forward to reading your opinions. Cheers, Lotte Re: Would you conceal decking screws? If so, how? 3Apr 20, 2007 11:13 am I think most decks are done with nails. I think most also rust a bit and together with the small head size and any decking oil become barely noticable.
I thinks screws could look nice if properly lined up. 3xb Re: Would you conceal decking screws? If so, how? 4Apr 22, 2007 8:05 am Thanks guys. I've now seen what the stainless screws look like and they don't actually look so bad, but they do need to be lined up well in order to look decent.
We decided to go with Ironbark decking. Paid $3.20 l/m for it. VERY happy with that price, and glad I shopped around. Everyone seems to want to sell you only what they have, not what's good. Cheers, Lotte Sam There is a much stronger glue than liquid nails. It's called T Rex and will stick your timber to the concrete. Cheers Simeon 1 1546 l spoke to my plumber we decided to replace the rusted screws and keep all the screws with no rust, it will only cost a few hundred 7 8750 |
