We're thinking of using the area over the garage for some sort of storage (if needed, hopefully I won't need it) and access through our man-hole! Re: Where is your man-hole (person hole)? 6May 09, 2009 2:55 pm I'm ignoring any thought of rude. so ok ours is in the kids activity room area. Its at the end of the pasageway near minor bedrooms and the laundry. In our last house it was in the passageway just outside the laundry as well and it is in this house we are renting. so not in a front hallway area. Re: Where is your man-hole (person hole)? 7May 09, 2009 3:14 pm Does anyone have one of those trapdoors with a built in/drop down ladder? Then a proper storage place in the roof space? I'm hoping to get one one day, have to build a floor over the rafters to create a usable space. One of the gunna doers...very long list. Re: Where is your man-hole (person hole)? 8May 09, 2009 3:27 pm We're quite happy with our hole thankyouverymuch. It is in the walk-in robe, which means it never gets sighted by guests. Re: Where is your man-hole (person hole)? 10May 09, 2009 4:46 pm Helyn So as not to hijack Fairy Blue's thread any more, I am starting a new topic here - complete with my first ever poll on this forum I didn't mind the hijack, helyn. It's nice to start a topic of conversation and congratulations on your first poll! Obviously my manhole (personhole) is in the hallway of the house we are building. In our current home (recently sold) it is in the laundry. It is always fiddly getting the ladder in and out. I didn't give the manhole much thought but I am glad it is in the hallway as I would like to one day install the attic ladder Dragonfly was talking about. Re: Where is your man-hole (person hole)? 11May 09, 2009 5:22 pm we have two one in the laundry and one in the wir in the master bedroom, we almost had only one has they forgot about the one in the laundry we had to push them for it we said it was on the plan we wanted, but it is still not right as it has the bears over the top so only good if you are small finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: Where is your man-hole (person hole)? 12May 09, 2009 5:22 pm Person hole? Our is in the mud room, same as Joles. That's because it's the same house....well, except that hers is the bigger and posher version. We plan to add a roof ladder, but we'll do that in the garage where there's more room. In our old house it was in the hallway - which was a PITA, since it was very narrow, dark and difficult to manouvre a ladder in, but there was nowhere else to place it. Re: Where is your man-hole (person hole)? 13May 09, 2009 5:39 pm Mine is in the laundry. My house is 7.5 years old. Re: Where is your man-hole (person hole)? 14May 09, 2009 5:41 pm Yes indeed, kek, on our contract it shows a p/h in the garage which I assume stands for person hole - what politically correct nonsense And what dirty minds you lot all have - but what else could I call the thread ? I hadnt thought of a man-hole being in a WIR - unless it is a very big WIR that would seem a difficult spot to manouvere a ladder in , also what if you have tradies or yourself, in your work boots and all dusty/greasy from whatever you are working on in the ceiling and then you come down into your carpeted WIR, not to mention your clean hanging clothes sorry, that doesnt seem a very practical place to me especially if it is the only man-hole in the house. Re: Where is your man-hole (person hole)? 15May 09, 2009 5:44 pm The WIR is a common place for an upstairs manhole, but yes, it could get messy. I suppose you could use a drop sheet or two if need be. Someone I know built an upstairs extension and the builder placed the manhole in the WIR on the plans. The owners weren't keen on that idea, so they moved it to the balcony off the master bedroom. That's probably the oddest place I've ever heard of one... Re: Where is your man-hole (person hole)? 16May 09, 2009 5:45 pm We have ours in the master WIR. I dont like it there, tried to get it changed to another location but we werent allowed to. I think it would be annoying to have to access the roof from our WIR, coz it's actually not all that big and it would be annoying and messy! Idiots are fun, that's why there is one in every village! - Dr. House - Re: Where is your man-hole (person hole)? 19May 09, 2009 6:43 pm ours is in our 2nd hallway, near the laundary and toilet. So it is a tiled area which is good. Our current town house it is in the garage but it is floorboards so heater unit isn't in the roof. Our new house is on slab, so I think they need to put the manhole near the heater unit. can’t tell from the photo, a tie down rod will be 12mm, is it a steel beam? he should be able to work it out 1 4444 Thanks for your advice. So far i have not noticed any issues with doors and windows. Builder advised they will organise drainers to inspect 2 weeks ago but no further… 7 17882 Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
