Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 08, 2009 7:40 pm Hi there
My first post here! Just getting started. Paid our $1000. Decisions are doing my head in already!!! I'll have to get used to that. Was hoping to get some opinions on brick colour. We want to have Colorbond roofing in a light colour for its thermal properties and looks eg anywhere from Surfmist up to Bushland. We are not sure whether a light brick or a dark brick would go better with it. I'm leaning more towards a light brick as it will suit the area a bit more (casual, beachy, near the bay) but am worried it might all look a bit bland (plus we'll need sunnies to leave the house due to its glare ). Would a contrast with a dark brick be better? We are planning to have stained timber windows and front door too (light, medium or dark stain choice). Re: what colour brick with a light coloured Colorbond roof? 2May 08, 2009 7:47 pm Both will look good, but I'd go for a light brick for a couple of reasons. It's thermal properties (as that is something you are thinking about), your location (sounds like a light house will look perfect) and because I just reckon light bricks and light roof can look really crisp and fresh. A dark gutter colour as a bit of a frame to the roof so to speak and a medium to dark stain on the windows will look stunning! But dark bricks can look really striking with a light roof because of the contrast.. so that would look great as well. Oh and hi and welcome to the forum! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: what colour brick with a light coloured Colorbond roof? 3May 08, 2009 7:54 pm If you are worried about it being bland ( I don't think it will be but...) you can always add some pizzaz and rich colours into your landscaping, foliage, pots, paths etc... Burgundy foliage plants and some gorgoeus ceramic pots etc, will balance the 'blandness'. Try to think ahead and imagine the whole picture along with the bricks. Get the coloured pencils out and do a little sketch. I have chosen neutrals but I will balance it with strong foliage and black balcony railings plus a timber stained door. Welcome to Homeone, it's fantastic. I look forward to following your journey. Good Luck. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: what colour brick with a light coloured Colorbond roof? 4May 09, 2009 7:54 am Don't forget the other colour choices you need to make: spouting and fascia, windows, front door, garage door, and render if you're having it. There's plenty of scope there to add contrasts and features to remove any hint of blandness. The decisions can seem overwhelming. Drive around some new estates and have a look at light-coloured houses and see what they've done with the windows, doors etc - then you'll get a better idea of what you like. And what you really don't like. Re: what colour brick with a light coloured Colorbond roof? 5May 09, 2009 9:20 am Hi, it took me ages to decide on my colours too. I really wanted a light colorbond roof and based my entire colour scheme around that. I now have a Dune roof with a dark brown brick (PGH Cassica) and my gutters/fascia/downpipes are Jasper. I have light windows and plan on adding timber entry door with front deck and timber look panel roller door. i think the dark bricks with the light roof looks amazing! I used the colorbond website and that helped me alot. Use their colour visualiser and this should help you decide what you prefer. Re: what colour brick with a light coloured Colorbond roof? 6May 09, 2009 10:15 am Hi - we have a shale grey roof and dark bricks which are Victoria Blue from Boral. We chose the bricks first. See photo. Gutters and fascia also shale grey. Ignore the downpipe - that should be ironstone to match the bricks and hopefully should be changed when we see the house later today! Goodluck with all your selections. It can be really hard. Although in my opinion depending on the light I think the Dune looks pretty similar to zincalume anyway (compare it to the tank for example). http://i417.photobucket.com/albums/pp253/mtbpebble/IMG_0733.jpg Re: what colour brick with a light coloured Colorbond roof? 9May 09, 2009 12:10 pm Pebble…..your house looks fantastic! Very nice indeed……… Thanks Michelle, it's getting close to finished now. On Monday we'll be looking at some carpet prices and colors to get an idea. I'm thinking of something browny or creamy, to keep the whole neutral colour theme. Re: what colour brick with a light coloured Colorbond roof? 13Feb 21, 2013 5:27 pm One of the houses down the road was light brick and light roof but thy've addded a few bits of render which really stop the house being bland. Another did the same but I personally don't like their choice of render colour and don't think it's as nice. Like kek said you can add a bit of detail with a slightly different colour to stop it being too bland. Must say Pebble's house was stunning IRL. Very sad they have moved towns now and are renting it out. Loved their location as I stayed there a few times. Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10209 You should pressure clean your roof first and make sure the paint you buy also is anti mould. 4 18565 Hi - thanks for your reply.
