Hi All,
I have been researching these great forums for a while now and am getting some valuable information.
I have just signed my contract to start building in Melbourne, and am awaiting land settlement.
Just a question regarding concrete slabs.
My contract specifies a H class waffle-type slab. I understand that I should expect shrinkage cracking during the slab curing phase. Does 'watering' the slab (keeping the slab moist) during the following 2-3 weeks immediately after slab pouring reduce the width/number of cracks?
Does keeping the surrounding of the slab damp over the months guard against movement cracking?
I have opted for tiling throughout my home, and have been told to lay a bed of sand/cement mix before the tiler lays the tiles, to avoid tile cracking.
Do you think the major builders will object to laying the sand/cement mix for me if I pay a variance, even though my contract doesn't allow for this?
Thanks and keep up the great work!
