I dont mind the bedroom near the front door; and our minor bedrooms are at the back separated from front section by a central kitchen/meals/family area. I wanted the lounge and master away from the rest, that is our quiet area, we dont have little kids to pull open the curtains or to worry about them going to the toilet at night. Our street is a quiet side street and we have roller shutters on front windows, we do sleep during the day as we are shift workers, we put a do not disturb sign on front door if we are asleep in daytime - more important to keep away from activity in back yard, alfresco area etc which are well away from our bedroom. From a resale point of view, there are just too many variations on what people like - neither option is going to be a problem for resale. Yep It was quite an experience, we live on a main road too *shakes head* the curtains are now firmly fixed closed with a few safety pins Re: Where do you prefer your master bedroom?? 24May 02, 2009 9:33 am Front or back, don't care - as long as it's away from the kids. Teenagers stay up late and make a helluva noise with all their electronic gadgets. Not to mention the bickering and name-calling, and the occasional punch - with the accompanying yelling. They may sleep till lunchtime, but I get up early and need my sleep. So our bedroom is right at the front, with living areas and kids' rooms at the back. The other thing is, I hear them going out and coming in the front door. At least I know whether they're home or not.... Re: Where do you prefer your master bedroom?? 25May 02, 2009 9:53 am JMHO, I prefer my master at the front as well. I have 3 young children - I'd hear them easily if they opened the front door, etc., Their bedrooms are all at the back. I'm with you kek, ours is at the front, we will have a couple of teenage kids in a few years - like the idea of knowing everyone who is coming and going. Our current house has all 3 bedrooms right next to each other - which was great when we first moved in and we had one little baby - but now 12 years later, we all need our space - hence the demolition, things change so much - personally I don't think you can build a house for every stage of your life. 2011 Home Sweet Home Handover 03 September 2010 PCI 27August 2010 Plumber 20August 2010 Electrician 19August 2010 Painting 04 August 2010 Cabinets 13Jul2010 Lockup 23June Frame 20April slab 1Mar10 Re: Where do you prefer your master bedroom?? 28May 02, 2009 11:09 am Our master bedroom is kinda in the middle, not the front or the rear. We have a garage, lounge and then our room. The kids room is at the front, but only across the hallway from us. I dont really like bedrooms at the front, only because I'm really paranoid that peeping toms are looking into my bedroom through the curtains . I use to read heaps of real crime websites and this has made me SO paranoid about everything . I havent really thought about the kids factor, i think just as long as they are kinda near me, but not too close, it's good enough. Our children are only babies and we plan to have atleast 1 possibly 2 more...I wanted them as close as possible. I have these stupid fears about a fire or similar occuring upstairs and my babies all being trapped up there alone with out me or DH to protect them. I know this could happen when they are teenagers too, but at an older age I think they would have a better idea of how to get out of danger.. In saying that though I love the design of the Brookvale (same as Petal's) with the master at the bottom and all the kids bedrooms upstairs, but not until my kids are older. I told DH we can build again in 10 years when all our kids are older and our needs differ My karma ran over your dogma Re: Where do you prefer your master bedroom?? 30May 02, 2009 7:01 pm Quote: I dont really like bedrooms at the front, only because I'm really paranoid that peeping toms are looking into my bedroom through the curtains . Yes! That's me too!!! Also, we face north so our living area is at the front of the house - but even if it wasn't , I still prefer bedrooms at the back...and with littlies, I like to be nearby! I might change my tune when they are teenagers but that's a while a way yet! Re: Where do you prefer your master bedroom?? 31May 02, 2009 8:03 pm we planned all rooms together but we have two master bedrooms one at the back one at the front so future buyers can choose we are sleeping in the back one stay safe happy building Re: Where do you prefer your master bedroom?? 32May 02, 2009 9:42 pm I prefer the Master bedroom away from the kids bedrooms and at the front of the house, but not directly at the front though. l have never felt comfortable having any bedrooms directly facing the street. We have designed our new home to have the study and garage at the front, with the master bedroom behind the study. Kiddo's bedrooms are way way back at the other end of the house Re: Where do you prefer your master bedroom?? 33May 02, 2009 9:51 pm we're building with the master at the front, one reason i was happy with that was for security, weve got two dogs covering the back anyway so if anyone wants to try their luck with the front door hopefully we'll hear them. Re: Where do you prefer your master bedroom?? 34May 03, 2009 7:43 pm wow that is sooooo interesting to read, thanks everyone!!! As I will be there on my own and I have no plans to have kids, I'm purely building a 4 bed or 3 bed + study for re-sale value I think I'll stick to having the master at the front. Thats what seems to be the preferred. I have forgotten about the noise of garbage trucks.. as we now live in a small complex of 5 townhouses and are 100m off the road... so we don't hear the trucks... oh well, I sleep through anything, so shouldn't hear them.. Re: Where do you prefer your master bedroom?? 40May 05, 2009 10:20 pm IMHO, bedrooms are meant to be upstairs! And I hate the idea of the master bedroom by the front door! I don't like the idea of strangers seeing my bed when they walk into the home and I don't want to keep closing the bedroom door! Having said that, there should be a guest bedroom downstairs for mobility purposes, preferably at the back of the home. We couldn't do so with our plans as the living areas face north, so the guest bedroom has to be in the most unfavourable position of being next to the front door! Thank you so much.
