About to start building a ranch style home on a few acres. Using a Sandstone brick & hubbie wants light grey roof. Trying to decide between colourbond shale grey & windspray. Would then use Colourbond Ironstone for gutters, facsia's & veranda posts. Stuck on windows, orginally looking at cream to match in with sandstone, but unsure about that internally. Now thinking about using the light grey for windows as well? Bit of a worry that I can't decide on things at this early stage - not looking forward to moving to the interior!! If anyone as any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jo Re: Need help with exterior colour combo's... 2Apr 14, 2007 4:59 pm I am SO not the person to help you on this one so just wanted to give you a heads up that you are doing the right thing by asking for help.
We went to the house today as the painters were due to finish yesterday. We love our bricks ... our roof and our red front door. REALLY don't like the colour of our portico. It was so disappointing to see it. I thought everything was going to go great together but it's just not fitting together right. I guess I'll repaint it down the track but with everything else to be done, it's just not a priority right now. So ... good luck with choosing the colours. I'm sure you're not colour blind like I clearly am!! cheers amber http://www.ourdreamhouse.blogspot.com Re: Need help with exterior colour combo's... 3Apr 14, 2007 6:53 pm The colour combos you have mentioned sound good to me. But that's coz I'm a big fan of those colours and anything that is neutral/earthy colours.
I love the ironstone colour and would pair that with the windspray for the roof and light grey for the windows. But that's just what I would do. Let's hope Michelle can shed more light. Oh, and just a warning when it comes to interior colours - oh my there are a million shades of white! But I hope that doesn't scare you. Because when it all starts to come together it is SO exciting. Good luck! You'll be sure to find one house that you really like. Take photos and then finalise everything. we did that just today and surprisingly the digital camera had even picked up the mortar finishes. made it really easy at the colour selection visit.
Good luck! VP Re: Need help with exterior colour combo's... 5Apr 16, 2007 10:16 pm Thanks everyone.
Most people seem to go with the darker colourbond colours now days, so hard to find anything along the lines we are thinking. Like most things though, as long as you do your research you shouldn't go to far wrong (that's what I'm hoping anyway!!) Re: Need help with exterior colour combo's... 6Apr 16, 2007 10:55 pm In so many areas of my life two rules keep appearing again & again:
1) Keep it simple 2) Your first idea is usually the best Re: Need help with exterior colour combo's... 7Apr 17, 2007 8:56 pm Hi Jo K,
Roof – Windspray Gutters - Windspray Fascias - Windspray Try to keep ALL of your roof line the same colour, I think it flows better. Veranda Posts – Ironstone Windows – Cream. Cream is an easier colour to work with internally than grey. Most wall colours will complement a cream than a grey. Hope this has helped!! I was worried with the lighter roof (especially the Shale Grey) that our house would be too bland & that the Ironstone gutters etc would break that up. I can see the benefits of the lighter roof (heat & fading), but the Windspray is a good compromise (still a lot lighter than the Woodland Grey). I trust your judgement on the cream windows - I haven't got much idea with putting colours together & that's obviously your speciality!! Will probably go off white in all the living area on the walls & didn't know how that would go with the cream windows. Once again thanks for your suggestions - greatly appreciated!!!! Jo PS have to order windows & roof iron in the next couple of weeks, & should be able to see how our choices are all going to go together over the next few months - scary stuff Re: Need help with exterior colour combo's... 9Apr 19, 2007 10:45 am Good luck!!
