Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 30, 2009 11:10 am I have just ripped out the old mantle on the stone fireplace of my really old house. c1910. Installing a new kitchen, but somehow want to reuse the old mantle in someway, decoration wise. Does not have to be in the kitchen tho kind of would like it to be. It's very plain, no fancy corbels, will definately have to be stripped back and it's about 1.5m high. I can chop off the bottom if need be. Any ideas? Took the mantle shelf off. He now uses the fire space for a tv unit he built. I was trying to convince him to build a nice little wine rack as it was off the kitchen, but he went with tv unit. It has very little resale value, so a friend is going to take it apart and use all the carved and curved pieces to make a small chair. Your mantle is reasonably plain, so maybe a small shelf unit ?
