Just not sure if this is the right spot for pictures of the kids? Am I wrong? I think family photos, like these, need to be displayed but not in the entrance to a house... Does this look OK....What would you you do? Should I just pull my head in and leave the selections to DW and stick to my theatre room? Re: Hallway decorating ... Opinions please 2Apr 29, 2009 9:49 pm I think the reason that she has put them there is because the photos are in old style sepia so they look good against the feature wall. Personally, I would have probably gone with a matching mirror above the table, but it is a long hallway so it probably needs more than just that. It looks ok to me Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, and professionals built the Titanic." Re: Hallway decorating ... Opinions please 3Apr 29, 2009 9:54 pm Either way your hall on its own is very elegant and open....I love the beautiful black and white pics I would keep them in the entrance I think they add a wonderful family feeling to your home. That of course is a personal opinion. I would however keep them all at one height and closer together, and I would move your hall table over under the wedding pic. Because you have a feature wall (that appears slightly textured?) and then you have those beautiful pics I would keep those 2 things as your highlights and take away the 3rd thing to look at. In saying that you would keep the hall table there if you got rid of the pics. So its 1 or the other for my vote. I think your head is fine where it is. Re: Hallway decorating ... Opinions please 4Apr 29, 2009 9:58 pm Hi Matt, I think that the entrance to your home is lovely but i do have to agree with you on the pictures...... although i absolutely love family photos in the home i think they belong in a family or lounge room not on an entrance wall. I think a large landscape canvas painting or mirror would work great above the hall table. I think the three prints are spread out too far and it looks too busy, it might look better if they were close together and level. I also notice that the opposite wall has wedding pics up also, if you decided to get some other form of artwork to replace the children's pictures then you can maybe tie the theme across to the other side and also replace the wedding pics..... just my opinion. None the less they are beautiful pictures Hope it helps Carol Re: Hallway decorating ... Opinions please 5Apr 29, 2009 10:00 pm PK, I think that Matt's DW has lined them up with the feature tiles on the floor. Honestly, they are not working for me. The pics are beatiful, but I reckon they need to be closer together in a more intimate configuration or something. It's almost as though they are not the right size or something for the space. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Hallway decorating ... I think family photos, like these, need to be displayed but not in the entrance to a house... So the last thing you see before you leave your home is pictures of the kids, and later you're welcomed back home by pictures of the kids... how can that be wrong? That said if you prefer to see the photos more often you might put them somewhere else in the home where you spend more time, as the house entrance is a place of transit most of the time as you don't spend much time there. Re: Hallway decorating ... Opinions please 7Apr 29, 2009 11:05 pm I think it looks great! I love family pics, and those look truly beautiful Maybe if you have a similar style *scenic* shots you could put them there instead and move the childrens ones to a more "family" orientated room? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Hallway decorating ... Opinions please 8Apr 29, 2009 11:12 pm I think the color of the picture and the color of the wall not matched. The table hall is good with a round mirror, so it will look elegant. I would rather change the frame of the picture if it will stay there. How about thick black frame. Re: Hallway decorating ... Opinions please 9Apr 29, 2009 11:48 pm ok matt two problems i see 1st : remove the picture directly above the table its too busy and distracts from the table but i would leave the other pics 2nd: you spent so much anguish getting the perfect table for the entry and then you go and cover it with a table runner get rid of the table runner and enjoy the natural grain of the table cheers shelley p.s. family pics are welcome in any room in my house but no need to over do it keep it simple and less crowded stay safe happy building Re: Hallway decorating ... Opinions please 10Apr 29, 2009 11:59 pm hi matt, I would loose the table runner and I think the pictures don't "pop" on that wall, or with that frame, but I agree they should be closer together... try a few variations in spacing first. I just think the pics need to be hung at the same height and a bit closer together. I think an entry hall is the perfect place for family photos. We are planning to put some along ours once DH pulls his finger out (I am not good with picture hanging. In fact neither is he. The pictures are fine, wherever you want to put them - just the positioning needs tweaking. Re: Hallway decorating ... Opinions please 13Apr 30, 2009 9:55 am I think entrance hallways are a great place for family photos - your hallway looks very wide and long, doesn't look crowded to me. We have no furniture in our entrance hallway, 1.4m wide, but we have family photos on walls, both sides. Re: Hallway decorating ... Thats close to what I'm looking for in our entry hall, but with 4 legs to it. Anyone know of any stores around south east Melbourne that sell timber hall tables, no online shops. I agree, the table would look better without the runner on it. It sorta hides the look of the nice timber finish. The photos, I have to admit, look really good. But heres a tip I read from todays herald sun; 'if you gather your knick knacks, photos and other bits and pieces and display them as a group instead of spreading them around you can create a lovely new look'. So I'd try and get a mirror like this: http://image.restorationhardware.com/is ... _SM07?$PD$ for the entry, above the table. It will make the room look bigger than it already is too! The photos look great, but maybe try placing them onto another wall along with other family photos. Hope that helps! Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! I would stand back, take a hard look and ask yourself, what would you like for your guests to see first thing when they enter your beautiful home, Table? Tiles? Feature wall? Mirror? lighting? your smile? Perhaps even a warm long streaming rug? I dont have the answer but what comes to mind is a landscape canvas, a three tier look..obviously black and white...as your childrens photos in black and white on that colour wall looks awesome.. -----Belive nothing ya hear and only half of what ya see----- Might cheaper to changer your idea of what makes a home, have you considered building a porch? 2 51809 at most it will have a short lintel which could be moved up just below the ceiling or even above.
