Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 27, 2009 1:04 pm Hi, I would really love to do something with my driveway but just don’t have the funds to get someone into resurface or spray pave ect, So I’m looking for DIY alternatives. Currently my driveway Is an old concrete driveway in good condition no cracks ect. I would like to either have my driveway a complete charcoal colour or have it charcoal with a paving pattern just on the edges. Has anyone painted a driveway before or tried painting a pattern. Could you possible put out the paving tape in the desired pattern and then just paint over with concrete paint. Any ideas or even photos would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Stef Re: DIY Driveway 2Apr 27, 2009 2:43 pm I'm sure you could just paint over it. Someone I know painted theirs with a paint brush, everyone said it looked great but I didn't see it myself. Make sure you get the right paint, otherwise it might start to flake off/ wear off after a while. Re: DIY Driveway 3Apr 28, 2009 10:21 pm You could get someone to powerwash it with a high power water jet - it will look a lot better than the current old looking concrete. That's pretty cheap. Re: DIY Driveway 4Apr 29, 2009 10:24 am you could try stenciling it yourself, you can hire the gear and give it a crack, the stencilied concrete pages recommend having a pro do it but you could give it a shot Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. If anyone has DIY stencil any tips would be great. Thanks guys, Re: DIY Driveway 6Apr 29, 2009 2:24 pm I reckon DYI painting could come close to looking like a professional job. I reckon DYI stencilling could look like a dogs breakfast when compared to a professional job, especially over time. I'd personally go for painting so as not to gamble with a potential eye sore. Re: DIY Driveway 8May 05, 2009 2:32 pm stefnmick Thanks guys looks like i will give it a shot at painting it. Talk to Dulux (or similar) about what paint ot use. Regular paint can just peel off with hot tyres going over it. Re: DIY Driveway 9May 05, 2009 11:50 pm Just 2 c, unless you are quite good in this and got the skill and time...may be it's better to do it properly by professionals, which would in most cases look better and last much longer. DIY might save you some money in the beginning, what if in the end it didn't work out as expected and you have to spend more time/money to fix/patch it?? since your driveway is still in usable condition, what's the rush? Why not set up a target figure and start saving/working on it, then get a professional person to do it properly. Assuming the structure of your cabinetry is good then I would DIY everything as follows: - replace your counter tops entirely, - replace all drawer runners with soft close… 1 3421 Re my second point – yes exactly. And often it may take additional time if the manufacturer recommends no more than X meters… 3 3752 |
