Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Slab Heating costs 2Apr 27, 2009 2:29 pm Hi Mick, I'm not sure about the set up costs but the running costs for an electric system is quite high. we had a small townhouse with the lower floor slab heated and thought it was a great idea. We'd come home out of the rain and the floor was nice and warm, plus there was no dust being blown around. That is until we recieved our first bill. We were told that it would take lot's of power to initially warm the slab and that keeping it on a constant temperature would not use up too much power. We had it on the lowest setting and the bill came to about $800 for 2 months. (Our heated area was only about 60-70 sq mtrs). Needless to say - i went and bought two column heaters which did a great job. Can i suggest hydronic heating as it is more efficient. If you have tiles, there are strips that can be placed on the tiles before they are layed which heat up. Maybe a gas slab heater will be cheaper to run - but my advice is to steer clear of electric ones. Cheers, Rookie Re: Slab Heating costs 3Apr 27, 2009 3:18 pm Most volume builders include gas central zoned heating as standard. So were going for that, and if the floors cold use a mat or something... Under floor heating is expensive, and if it breaks can cost a fortune to repair. Re: Slab Heating costs 4Apr 28, 2009 9:35 pm We just picked up our floor heating from Ballarat on the weekend. We are installing hydronic floor heating into our slab and it cost $5550 for supply of the system. This is to cover a floor area of 230m2. Hubbie is a plumber so is installing himself so not sure of the cost to install. Business that we purchased the system off is Angus Eeles Plumbing in Ballarat. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good hydronic in slab heating speacialist who may be able to help me with an existing system and wether or not it may need a seperator… 0 4870 I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 13063 Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering.
