You don't technically own the land until settlement, so I would say no. Also, I know that if the pegs marking out the corners of your block aren't there before settlement, then its up to the developer to pay for it to be re-surveyed before settlement. Ask the developer to mow it and see what they say 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Owner was not happy about it... Will need to ask my lawyer to talk to them but not sure if it's any good. grrrrrrrr Wisdom Homes Manhattan 39 Blog - https://edmondson-park.blogspot.com.au H1 Thread - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=88210 Re: Grass responsibility before settlement on land 4Apr 27, 2009 2:22 pm Jordann I emailed the realestate asking them to ask the owner about mowing the lawn. They take their time registering to save themselve money, then expect you to fork out money to get it cut. So frustrating. But if the developer has no reason to mow it then they probably wont. and there's no law against long grass, so there isn't much you can do about it unless there is a clause in your contract?? Our land settled in december and the developers have been mowing it since, as there are still lots of unsold blocks in the estate its in their interest to keep it neat. Re: Grass responsibility before settlement on land 7Apr 27, 2009 9:26 pm wake_me ..... and there's no law against long grass, so there isn't much you can do about it unless there is a clause in your contract?? Actually, there may be - our council serves notices on owners of overgrown vacant land giving them X days to mow it. It's a fire hazard, noxious weeds can spread and there may be snakes.... Contact your council and ask them about owner's responsibilities. Re: Grass responsibility before settlement on land 8Apr 29, 2009 12:55 am Couldnt agree more with the need to mow. Murrindindi used to issue us in Kinglake with fire notices around October/November when the spring had made the grass begin to grow again. I would suggest to them that in the spirit of good will, snake bite prevention or a fire notice being served that they might like to reconsider. It's really not that hard, and they still do technically own the land! Will give my council a ring today and see if they can do anything. Our front lawn (council boundary) was always mowed and taken care of, and the actual block was slashed twice whilst we waited.
