You will have to find their meaning of 'disappeared'. As far as I know disappearing is the tricky one because apparently a big effort has to be made to find the builder first. I am guessing that the 25 year guarantee was the builders guarantee. You need to check how long the insurance will cover you for structure. I'm only guessing here but I think that whatever guarantees the builder had in place go out the window and you are left with whatever insurance will cover you for. You could contact ASIC, we did when we thought our builder was insolvent ... yet. You make a complaint and they do an investigation. This might be the quickest way to find out what is going on with his business. Thanks photogirl. We've contacted ASIC and he's had his building license revoked but he isn't insolvent. Apparently someone had a court action against him in January but it was resolved. We've just been told to go to the Insolvency Trustee Commission but I think there is a line up. We've got a bit of an issue with our balcony so we need to check the insurance ... and then there is that little matter of our floors. His office is abandoned and his creditors are contacting us looking for him. Seems like our house was the last one he finished and no one was paid. Last we heard he has gone underground. Perhaps the next step is the ITC. The concreter will take and reuse. In my case I bought structural LVLs and scraped them back and used them as joists. 1 5150 |
