We've ended up with two 2340 x 820 INF4G with clear glass that will be stained Sikkens "Black". And everyone has tried to talk me out of them. Sorry to take this off track for a sec. I think black stain will look fantastic. Am glad that you can't be talked out of it. Re: I don't like my front doors! 25Apr 22, 2009 7:58 pm You need to see it all finished, for sure....repainting a couple of doors is a really minor thing, so not a big deal, just one of those details that can drive you crazy. There's a house near us that has a bright red front door. I thought it looked awful at first, but once the garden was done and all the finishing touches added, it looked great. I'll see if I can sneak a pic in the next couple of days, just to show you how good a total contrast can look. Is it possible to pick one of the colours in your facade, but go a couple of shades darker? Maybe find the colour on the manufacturer's chart or fandeck and see what else is there. Re: I don't like my front doors! 26Apr 22, 2009 8:12 pm Said doors are in pics on my thread "Our Cremorne 42" Thanks for all your advice everyone I have decided to wait until everything is on, garage, fencing, front garden, timber porch, driveway - the works!! And see how it looks then, atleast I know if I still don't like it I can change it relatively easily after My karma ran over your dogma Re: I don't like my front doors! 27Apr 22, 2009 8:46 pm Great idea. you may love it once everything is finished or just decide to try Joles suggestion and change paint colour. Wait and see. this is getting exciting as there are a few of use right in the last 1-2 months or so of finishing. Re: I don't like my front doors! 28Apr 23, 2009 3:44 pm Thought I would bring the pictures of the doors onto this thread! Oh and I think I have the solution, I drove around looking at doors today on homes and after a discussion with Jo and Petal today, Jo made a very good point. The door frame should really match the window colour, and I think that is what is annoying me the most about mine! I went and looked on the gorgeous Mrs B's blog, because I was looking at her lovely green doors and thinking if I could go green doors too and I realised her door frame was actually white - or a colour similar to her window frames and it framed the door perfectly!! So my first step is going to be to paint the door frame in surfmist (and see if that makes a difference) I really think it might look much better. If that doesn't work I will try a whole new approach after the build and go green or something similar. Is Jo going to charge consultation fees ? She is so right. I'm sure that's what's missing Once painted, the doorjambs will frame your doors & they will stand out & not meld with the walls. So in summary: If it looks great, I'm a genius. If it doesn't look so great.... I never said it would definitely work without sidelights!!! Definitely agree- I think it will frame it, def worth giving it a go - and again, if you're still not happy, no biggie to change! I spoke to SS and he said he will call me when the painter comes back on site to do the stairs etc and I can pay him cash to paint over the feature wall I didn't like and also around the doors! Onto my 2nd issue now.......I don't like my feature tiles Again an easy fix, so not all is lost Love ya work Jo My karma ran over your dogma Re: I don't like my front doors! 38Apr 23, 2009 6:48 pm HUgz HAywgl I am going to go and check out your tiles. Surely they can't be any worse than the ones I've got in main bathroom/loo/laundry. at our new place. I hate mine too. ok off to check out your tiles now No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11589 Get some long brass machine screws and bolt right through the gate and put brass acorn nuts and washers on the other side.
