Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 22, 2009 2:26 pm It's not the end of the world, but DH and I both don't like our front entrance doors! We chose the Madison101 with the long glass strip down the side of the door, we have 2 front entrance doors. It's the colour we don't like, we chose to have Dune and the colour on it's own we love, but the doors just don't have a WOW! about them. We now regret our choice BIG time and want to change. I think we want Madison104 - with the 4 horizontal glass strips and we want them in a timber stained finish. We don't have any sidelights and the doors are 2040 high x 820 wide. I have been on the Corinthian webpage and it looks like we will be up for about $1200 for the 2 doors and that doesn't include staining, that is just veneered in preperation for staining. What do people think? Is there a way to get these doors for cheaper? Should I try and get them now and get SS to re-install the new doors we buy? Or is it relatively easy to install after? Also the door frame is painted in Dune, so I'm assuming this will have to be stripped and stained aswell!! OH boy! Why did I stuff up!! My karma ran over your dogma Re: I don't like my front doors! 2Apr 22, 2009 2:35 pm Front doors did my head in a bit as well. I spent a ridiculous amount of time thinking about it. We've ended up with two 2340 x 820 INF4G with clear glass that will be stained Sikkens "Black". And everyone has tried to talk me out of them. So, with that in mind, take my advice with caution. If the main issue is the colour, I'd try a different colour first. You've got your friend the painter, try a different colour with some oomph.... see how that is, then decide if you still want to change them. If you do still want to change them, it's easy to do after handover. BUT the problem is the frame, because it's been painted, it will be a pain in the a** to strip back and stain. Changing colour will only cost a minimal amount, and it may make you perfectly happy! I'd try that first. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: I don't like my front doors! 3Apr 22, 2009 2:38 pm That's what I was thinking Jo, but WHAT colour!! It is so hard! I was thinking Jasper, but that won't work because the Jasper render is all around. The colour has to fit with Jasper, Dune and Nougat bricks! I just can't think of anything!!! My karma ran over your dogma Re: I don't like my front doors! 5Apr 22, 2009 2:41 pm I was thinking Surfmist - but have never seen a white front door and I think that is the problem, the door is too light! I don't think red or green would go with our other colours Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! I'll take a photo after I have got DD from kinder and it might help people help me! My karma ran over your dogma Re: I don't like my front doors! 6Apr 22, 2009 2:43 pm Are you going to put on security doors? Our front door will be painted in paperbark but we will have a security door fitted and that will make it look darker. I hate security doors, even those with no grilles or bars, but we have to do something? Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: I don't like my front doors! 7Apr 22, 2009 2:44 pm Could you keep the doors and put a really WOW ceramic pot in a yummy colour with a WOW plant in it, then it will create a WOW entrance by not just relying on the door for the WOW factor. Maybe add a flashy but classy doormat also? I have to say that we changed our minds about our door about 5 times (before signing off with the builder) just to get he right one. Ended up spending about 3 times more than we wanted to. The door you chose is really nice but I can understand how you feel, when you are not 100% happy. Maybe you could sell the doors you bought after handover and reorder now the other doors and get them installed by the builder. Could you strip and change the frame after handover yourselves. Joles is right a big pain in the a** but there's not much to be done about that. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: I don't like my front doors! 8Apr 22, 2009 2:47 pm Bel, think about all the display homes.... heaps of them have a different front door colour that doesn't match anything else. That's why they have impact. You can't have it both ways .... if you want it to match all your other colours it will blend in and not have impact. If you want it to have impact and stand out, then it will have to contrast with your other colours. Surfmist is probably the only way to have it both ways, you've used it minimally on your facade... so it will tie in, but white also has impact. What are you planning to do in the front yard??? Is there a particular plant you are planning on using and you can pick up the colour for your front door? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: I don't like my front doors! 10Apr 22, 2009 2:51 pm Thanks for your advice everyone Hels - Funny you should mention the security doors. We were going to get the crimsafe type once, which I have heard can make the doors look darker anyway. But now DH thinks he doesn't want them covering the doors either. But a great suggestion, because it could very well solve the problem TheMax - Yep, I hear ya! I agree about stripping/re-staining, a bit of a PITA. Its not the door style, we like that. Its the colour! We were only thinking the 104, because I don't think the 101 would suit the timber colour. I'm off to look at the PD website and see what they have done. Your right though, once we do some decking at the front, we planned on a big plant in a nice bright pot and the porch roof is lined and painted, I might get over it. Jo- you are a clever girl I don't mind if its a stand out colour that contrasts, but just not something completely different. We plan to deck the porch. Will have a timber slat fence, exposed agg driveway. Big Yukka or similar in a bright pot at the front door, grass and lots of native type plants in the garden. Maybe I should just wait til its all done and see. If I remember correctly the Cremorne at Caroline Springs which is similar to our colours actually has a black front door, with the jasper coloured render and it looked pretty good. Maybe I could have the Jasper My karma ran over your dogma Re: I don't like my front doors! 11Apr 22, 2009 2:51 pm Someone on here once showed a photo of a door painted in a timber finish-look - can't remember who - this is the photo they put up: [img]http://img4.imageshack.us/my.php?image=paintedfrontdoor.jpg][/img] (hope this works!) Is that an option? Bugger, didn't work, I'll try again..bear with me! Re: I don't like my front doors! 13Apr 22, 2009 2:57 pm Yep Photos will come after I get DD from kinder - after 4 I'm lucky the things I don't like can be easily changed after handover, I found another thing, one of the feature wall colours but like I said not the end of the world, things I can change My karma ran over your dogma Re: I don't like my front doors! 14Apr 22, 2009 2:59 pm A bummer you don't like it... however I agree with what you said - wait until everything is done including landscaping and then decide. It is something that can be changed, but of course at a cost. Once you have other things done and moved in it may not bother you as much. Greenery in the garden will definitely change the look. Doghouse - I think you are right, I probably should wait for it to be complete, I guess it just stands out badly now!! I just saw the Cremorne at Pakenham on the PD website - very similar colours to ours, looks like they have matched the front door to the render colour and it looks good. I'm thinking I should do it Jasper...might have to ask my friendly painter for some help Is it relatively easy to just repaint over the door in another colour? I might even ask the painter when he comes back to do it for a cashy My karma ran over your dogma Re: I don't like my front doors! 18Apr 22, 2009 3:18 pm haywgl lisanne what's your favourite colour? PINK! Me, too, Bel!!!! But, no, not for a front door!!! I love Jasper, but I reckon the right shade of green would actually look beautiful....but you it's guys who have to love it! And, yes, it's easy to sand back and repaint in another colour - esp when it's darker. Good idea to ask your friendly painter!! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: I don't like my front doors! 19Apr 22, 2009 3:19 pm I definitely agree to wait till it's all finished bel. I have one of those crimsafe security doors and it changes the whole look of the front door, I think you'll be surprised what a difference it makes! If you end up getting the security doors that is. It would be a shame to spend all that money changing the doors only to have them obscured by the security doors anyway... Plus as others have said, the garden and the fence will make such a difference and the doors won't be as standy-outy! Re: I don't like my front doors! 20Apr 22, 2009 3:47 pm That's a shame about your front doors, but again not huge problem to fix if it just needs a different colour to give you that WOW factor once everything around it has been finished, if it needs it at all No the fireplace doesn’t work.
