Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 20, 2009 4:07 pm Hi, can someone please steer me in the right direction, my brother built a house in Melbourne with Marshall Baker Homes and before they completed the 6 month maintenance(that they had started) on his new house the company went broke leaving his house unfinished. He is divorced with no kids and works 10 hours a day to repay his mortgage so has no time to chase things up for himself so i have decided to help him but he is in Melbourne and i am in Brisbane. I know in Brisbane the Building Services Authority handles these issues so i am just wondering who does this in Victoria. Thanks, Buildright Re: Building Authority in Victoria 3Apr 20, 2009 4:40 pm Djelibeybi Buildright I know in Brisbane the Building Services Authority handles these issues so i am just wondering who does this in Victoria. VCAT is what you're after. Another one who is stuffed up because of the Marshall Baker debacle. Join the queue. People on here have gotten pretty much nothing from these useless pr*cks Re: Building Authority in Victoria 4Apr 20, 2009 7:13 pm Hi Buildright I'm not 100% sure what stage your brother's house is at so I am going to assume that as you mention 6 month maintenance that he has had handover and is living in the house. We were also building with MB. You need to contact Neil Martin at Lumley Insurance. Your brother will have the contact details and a copy of the Builders Warranty insurance document. To get any works completed an insurance claim will need to be made. Lumleys will send out an assessor to determine the extent of works and what can be claimed. You might want to have a report done by an independent inspector to further determine if there are any other defects or incomplete works. You can use this to form the basis of your claim. We had Kevin from New Home Inspections. He is really up to date on issues that exist in MB Homes. Neil at Lumley will be able to provide you with all the info you need, but it would be beneficial to also have an independent report to make sure nothing is missed. If you have any information missing then contact the administrators, your brother should also have documentation from them. They have all the files and should also be able to provide you with any info you need. In MB terminology they called it a red file and it would be extremely beneficial for you to have. If you have any trouble in obtaining that then Neil should also be able to help you out in that area. Hope this helps.
