Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Did your neighbours colour choices influence yours? 21Apr 18, 2009 11:11 pm We have a red roof (colourbond manor red) red is quite common here, black about equal (would make the house hot, I think) but both outnumbered by grey in all its variations. Still a very occasional green roof, we had a heritage green roof on our last house which I still like but not done often on new houses now, I'm not sure why. Re: Did your neighbours colour choices influence yours? 22Apr 18, 2009 11:23 pm donuts Being in an established neighbourhood, we had no problem worrying about being the same... all the surrounding houses were built in the 1950s and are all painted fibre cement (and not very attractive)!!! So our house is the newest (and best looking ) in the street! DITTO! Although, all the houses around me are a mix of either red or cream brick, and about mid 1960's! I did want a facade that was going to blend in with the area, and not be ultra modern. But I also prefer a more traditional looking house to an ultra modern one anyway! I knew the colours and 'feel' I wanted for the house before I picked the facade. There are quite a few using the same colours on more traditional looking new homes in the area anyway, so it all blends well. Had I built in a new estate, I may have gone for something a bit more funky and modern! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Although we live in a very established area -- our house will be very different and I love that. I hope the neighbours won't hate it but at the same time it's our house so we should go with what we want not bend over for others. Having lived in Newington (the former Olympic Village for the 2000 Sydney games) where the exteriors of the houses were variations on the same theme, the chaos of living in an established area presents wonderful opportunities to make a statement and set your house apart. Re: Did your neighbours colour choices influence yours? 24Apr 19, 2009 3:19 pm My land was in an estate that is probably about 5 years old so only my block and one opposite not built on. I picked what I wanted and only noticed a few weeks ago that the house next door which fronts onto another street (it is a corner house), has the same brick and roof tile as what mine has (only about 6 weeks to hand over). I was so focused on my build that I had never noticed it before. I am sure they are either flattered to be copied or aghast that I have the same but I had taken no notice of what all the neighbours had. it depends on the natural ground level, if they excavated their boundary wall needed to be built as a retaining wall.
