Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 31, 2022 12:01 pm We have changed our kitchen splashback from tile to stone in our renovation, and I'm being told that the stonemason has confirmed a third slab is required to accommodate the splashback (Stone Ambassador White Truffle). The slab size is 1610 x 3210. Based on my calculations they should be able to get everything out of two slabs of the Stone Ambassor. Can someone tell me whether my calculations are on the mark and that they should be able to get all the required sections out of two slabs? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ P.S. I think there is a better way to do it than I first worked out below by shifting the 800x800 section to the second slab and having the 1480x900 section cut vertically on the left of the first slab. This is a really hard question for anyone who isn't a stonemason to answer. Like with tiling you are going to have wastage possibly 10-15% and there are certain ways they need to cut the slabs to make them work that us lay folk don't understand. Our stonemasons always tell us we need more than we expect we do and honestly, they are the professionals and we rely on their honesty and professionalism. At the end of the day, you are renovating your home to make it as beautiful as possible, put some trust in the professionals you have hired and allow them to do the job you are paying them for. If you keep micromanaging them and trying to cut corners you will end up not getting the best out of them. Everyone will end up cranky and taking shortcuts just to get off your job. Is it just 20mm stone you are having or is it going to be 40mm. Are you having mitred edges, are there any breakfast bar overhangs, does it have a grain? There may be other factors that you haven't considered. Good questions but it is all basic 20mm edge profile, no overhang. I can't see that it would need any of the pattern to be matched but they could say so if that's the case https://www.stoneambassador.com.au/ranges/white-truffle/ Honestly I don't disagree that there may be a valid reason, but so far I have asked the question and been told 'the stonemason has confirmed an extra slab is needed', which isn't satisfactory for me to agree to the change. I would have thought they would be comfortable providing their cutting diagrams and/or a more thorough reason for why an extra slab is needed. my suspicion - some builders, they do usually make 'odd' settings in their site plan / pricing as their standards - being hopeful that first - the initial price is… 9 1844 Thanks for info, yes met with Power Utility, Builder's Site Supervisor and Electrician on site and aligned on the mains connection. Seems like the builder and Electrician… 2 9380 I know foam has been around since the 90's and CSR started manufacturing Hebel in 1989, so it's definitely possible 5 3928 |
