Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 13, 2009 1:05 am Hi I am from UK and I was wondering if the Building Regulations are a lot different in Australia. Any one has experience of working in UK and Australia? regards Re: Building regulations 2Apr 14, 2009 2:16 pm Ive previously worked in the UK and ireland. The building regulations are called the BCA (Building Code of Australia) in Australia. They match up most of the time, with suptle differences along the way. An example: Minimum gap in a stair balustrade in Ireland is a 100mm sphere, in Australia its a 125mm sphere. (Aussies have bigger heads!) There are lots of little differences like above. I too am from UK doing an owner builder rennovation looking to do most of the building work myself (e.g. framing, flooring, stumps, roofing etc etc). Anybody got any good tips on best place to find what the regs are that I will need to comply with ? I notice on the BCA site you can buy them for around $400 and there's another one I saw you can get an illustrated version for around $285. This seems a slight overkill. Anybody else been in this position and how did you ensure you complied, just chatted through with surveyor before ?? Thanks ! If you don't want to annoy the neighbours then simply get yourself some good head phones. For me the sound is much better using headphones.
