Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 10, 2009 11:46 pm Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a while and have built up enough courage to ask a question lol I'm planning of building somewhere in the Truganina/Tarneit area of Melbourne. The builder that I had picked doesn't do water tanks or double glazing as standard, which is now making me look elsewhere. When I asked him about a water tank etc he seemed to snicker at me over the phone and he said "so your after a 7 star house, that costs a lot more"! Can anyone recommend a builder who does actually include a water tank at least? I would like to get double glazing as well, but having the water tank is my main priority. I think water tanks should be standard anyway Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Melb. builders with water tanks at standard 2Apr 10, 2009 11:56 pm Premier do water tanks but I don't think they build out west. I'm getting my builder to do some plumbing for a future water tank that I will be getting installed - that's always an option 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Re: Melb. builders with water tanks at standard 4Apr 11, 2009 12:23 am Thanks guys. Do you know what the average price is to get the plumbing done for a tank? Also does anyone know how much double glazed windows would cost? If I ever find land that I can afford, I'll start building asap Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Melb. builders with water tanks at standard 5Apr 11, 2009 9:33 am With PD, the plumbing costs $450. That is the plumbing for two toilets. The majors either offer the tank or solar hot water. Most go with the solar hot water as standard. As for double glazing, how long is a piece of string? The major builders will charge to change to awning windows, then to change to double glazing. Originally we were going to double glaze the whole house, but with the majors only offering to do so with aluminium frames, and the cost being astronomical, we decided against it and will look at changing the windows over at a later date when the cost of double glazed windows with decent hardware is not going to cost us the earth. If you pick from a different range PM me and I will speak to them. Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. So I'll probably do that! I was going to go with East West Homes but have been torn between them and Burbank. I loved the 7 star houses, but they were slightly out of my price and then I'd still have to get the flyscreens etc... I just don't know, the sales guy with East West has been sooooo helpful and nice but I know that can't make my decision as this is a huge thing for me and what you get for your money is crutial for me. Being on a tight budget and all. This is my first build and its kinda special cause I've got to this point all on my own. If double glazing is that expensive I might have to wait until later also, which is a shame, I always swore that if I ever built I'd have double glazing, plus the hydro heating. But I've been out priced for hydro too, just can't afford it I may have to go have another chat with Burbank... this is going to be a tough decision Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Melb. builders with water tanks at standard 8Apr 11, 2009 6:42 pm rivergum do a water tank as standard, dont think its a huge one, we're signed on with them, but i cant reccomend them at this point in time as theyve upset me, but if it gets easily resolved ill be able to speak highly of them again!
