Show us yer sink kyton Re: Country sinks, where would you drain plates? 22Apr 11, 2009 11:51 am I actually almost decided against my house plan that was in all other ways perfect just because the sink was backwards! i always wash left to right (SuH.. maybe we should swap houses? ) and doing it the other way is like brushing your teeth with the other hand (go on try it). But my DH convinced me this was madness, and that there was bound to be a solution. I haven't chosen which one I'll actually use, but once I found out there was such a thing as portable drainer trays my mind was eased. But in a perfect world I would still much rather have the sink reversed (of course Henley said No.. no changes to kitchens .. but there are lots of changes to kitchens...? huh?.... ah... decided to let it go. save my fighting spirit for things that matter more). How bizarre not letting you change something as simple as a sink Beebie Well I am going to get into practice now with my L-R. My sinks are at the end of the island bench, I can see myself washing something and putting it to the left, which will be the floor Re: Country sinks, where would you drain plates? 24Apr 11, 2009 12:29 pm Beebie, I am amazed that the builder would not let you change something as easy as reversing the sinks drainage to the other side! Are you sure they wont re-consider this? Such a ridiculously simple request Re: Country sinks, where would you drain plates? 25Apr 11, 2009 1:10 pm it has to do with the position of the dishwasher etc. underneath. these are all on our island bench and it's too complicated to move the drains and so forth - so they say. i thought it would have been simple enough but i can see where they're coming from, the whole arrangement of cupboards and plumbing and so on would have be moved. it obviously can physically be done, but not easily enough for it to be something they say yes to without a hassle. we have bench space on either side of the sink so at least i have the option of putting my own drainer on the blank side, unlike poor SuH who can't do that and just has to wash the other way i figured it was something i could live with and save up my good graces with the henley people for when there's something i might have to really dig my heals in about Building Emperor Q2 with Henley in Featherbrook stage 13, Point Cook. Re: Country sinks, where would you drain plates? 27Apr 11, 2009 2:43 pm WOWSER WOWSER kyton, that's some sink woman but I definitely can't swim in that, I had a picture in my brain that is was one HUUUUUGEEE sink, like a trough I reckon you could fit a few bottles of bubbly on ice in them there sinks Re: Country sinks, where would you drain plates? 29Apr 11, 2009 7:13 pm This drainer looks like it couldnt hold plates...is yours especially for plates or similar to the one in the pic:? ? I have seen these ones...I thought it was a butler design. Trying to keep away from stainless steel but looks like it is the only option Re: Country sinks, where would you drain plates? 31Apr 11, 2009 7:24 pm People must think I am crazy putting so much thought into a dam sink, but at the end of the day you are using the sink at least twice a day, so it must be practical and good looking at the same time. I am beginning to think I am dreaming Re: Country sinks, where would you drain plates? 32Apr 11, 2009 7:26 pm I drove myself insane looking into sinks. Whilst the farmhouse sinks look nice (you can buy them over in the US in stainless - they look great) my reason for crossing them off my list was I like to wash then rinse off - can't do that with a one bowl sink. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Country sinks, where would you drain plates? 33Apr 11, 2009 7:51 pm kyton I drove myself insane looking into sinks. Kyton, you can get double farmhouse sinks... I just wished they would think about where you drain plates, might just have to get those portable drainers Re: Country sinks, where would you drain plates? 34Apr 11, 2009 8:14 pm Hi there. Long time lurker, first time poster. Since I'm living with a disabled relative at home, I found that the best kitchen sink for both of us is an adaptive kitchen sink. This kitchen equipment design features 2 bowls with an electric waste disposal on the left sink bowl. Drains are positioned at the center of the left bowl and at the rear inner corner of the right bowl so as to position the plumbing away from the individuals knees in a wheelchair. Since the right basin has it's drain positioned at the corner, the bottom of the sink should be sloped towards the drain hole. Lever handles are mounted halfway between the two sink bowls with 300 degree range of motion for maximum flexibility. Another faucet with flexible rubber hose is provided with a 7 foot reach. A removable sloping protection panel is mounted in front of the plumbing pipe under the sink to protect the knees of a wheelchair assisted individual.
