Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 10, 2009 3:03 am Hi folks We've just launched a new deal for 1 kW PV solar systems for $749 fully installed with 25 year warranty. The website is http://www.solarpower.net.au Will try to answer as many questions here but you are more than welcome to ask any other questions you might have. Do you qualify for $8,000 rebate? If your household income is less than $100k, you are owner occupier and the house is your principal place of residence then yes - it is almost certain you will qualify...I say almost becaue some houses are just not suitable - eg not enough northern facing roof area. How much will it save off electricity bill? Savings depend on how much sunshine you get - so factors like where you live, surrounding buildings or trees etc will affect the power output of the unit. However, average savings for a 1 kW system are around the $450 a year mark. How much will this help the environment? A 1 kW PV solar system can reduce your carbon footprint by as much as 2,000 kg annually. Who is SolarPower? We are a joint venture between one of Australia's largest builders and a well know trans Tasman bathroom & kitchens wholesaler. There is a detailed FAQ here http://www.solarpower.net.au/faq/ We believe we have the best offer on the market - there are some companies that are slightly cheaper. However, they only offer a 10 year warranty. If something goes wrong with the system in the 11th year, the replacement cost would be upwards of $10,000 so a 25 year warranty is a worthwhile addition. Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 2Apr 10, 2009 10:57 am Forgot to mention folks... The PV solar power system is completely free for customers who elect to buy the system together with a solar hot water system. Our goal is to install 1000 systems before the rebate ends on 30/6/09 - this will equate to 2,000,000 kg of CO2 not being released into the atmosphere every year! Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 3Apr 10, 2009 11:20 am Hi DarylC Can you provide details on what panels and inverters are used. Ditto for the solar hot water ie is it evac tubes or other as I could not find any specs at all. Cheers Michael He wants a dream home theatre - she wants a dream kitchen! Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 4Apr 10, 2009 11:40 am Hi What is the cost if you want to get this installed after Jun 09 ? As our house will not be ready b4 Jun 09 to get it installed and i very much doubt the builder will allow it prior to handover. Cheers Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 5Apr 10, 2009 12:41 pm Hi hysterical1144 The terms of the rebate offer from the Govt say that you have up to 9 months after the application is approved to arrange for the unit to be installed. The government application form does ask if the installation address is your principal place of residence and if not, when will it become your principal place of residence. If you were to apply for the rebate in May, you could get the unit installed before the 9 months lapsed. However, I can't say exactly how the Govt would feel about approving an application that they know in advance wont be installed for such a long time. Having said that, we are expecting massive take up of the rebate and anticpate that people who apply for the rebate in June will face significant waiting times simply because there are not enough people in Australia who are certified to install the systems. The Solar Homes and Communities page at the Dept of Environment does have a contact button. I would suggest you contact them and ask the same question. http://www.environment.gov.au/settlements/renewable/pv/index.html Hope that was helpful. Daryl Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 6Apr 10, 2009 12:52 pm Hi Paddy I am probably not the best person to answer this question for you. I am expecting the manager of the tech department to get this info to me next week so we can put it onto the website - if for no other reason that to save the receptionist getting 50 calls a day asking just that question. The solar how water systems are manufactured by SolarPower and information about their REC eligibility can be found at the ORER website - http://www.orer.gov.au/swh/register.html Rather than attempt to answer your question now and possibly make a mistake, I will PM you next week as soon as I get the info from our tech guru. Cheers Daryl Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 7Apr 10, 2009 3:02 pm few questions: are the cells aussie made? can you get solar gas system, and are they aussie made? can you do installs in adelaide? can we pay for it now and get it installed later? - i wish they would fix the 100k cap... -Nathan 2nd-Fix | Blog Building with Desyn Homes previously with the insolvent Endeavour Homes Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 8Apr 10, 2009 3:52 pm Hi Nathan The solar hot water systems are locally made by SolarPower but the solar panels are imported. Currently our two hot water systems use electric boosters. We are looking for installers all around Australia. My understanding is that we are close to finalising a deal with an operator that can install the units in SA. Yes, you can pay now and get the units installed later - the government takes up to 2 months to approve the application and they then allow up to 9 months for the units to be installed. If you want to PM your details to me, I will contact you as soon as our SA installers are ready to go. Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 10Apr 10, 2009 4:52 pm good to hear darryl, is there a solar gas option for the hws? 2nd-Fix | Blog Building with Desyn Homes previously with the insolvent Endeavour Homes Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 11Apr 10, 2009 5:59 pm Hi DarylC, It's good to know that you can probably install in SA. May I know if you can do it in Sydney NSW? I'm very much interested. The cheapest one that I found in NSW is $1999, which is much dearer. If I can get more people to install the system, can it be cheaper? Well, just asking. Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 12Apr 10, 2009 6:41 pm Hi reneegogh Lol at the looking for a discount - if you don't ask, you don't know. As the installers will, in a way, be representing our organisation, we do prefer to go through a screening process as part of dealer's application. We are looking for professionals who also feel a sense of excitement about being involved in something that will help the planet. We have set our margins at a very low price point because the next three months is a small window where, for a small investment, Australians can significantly reduce their greenhouse gas emmissions. We know that as we ramp up our advertising, other operators will benefit and quite frankly we are delighted by this. We would love to see every eligible household in Australia make an application for the rebate and have us and all of our competition run off their feet for the next 12 months. We are finalising an arrangement with a large business that will cover much of NSW but there will still be many areas where we are looking for dealers / installers. If you know of people who you believe would like to be part of this initiative, we would love to hear from them. We know that many households will find it difficult to come up with $750 and we are doing everything we can to find a way to make solar power accessible to everyone. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to tell installers how much to charge as this would constitute price fixing - our approach has been to accept extremely small margins on the wholesale price in the hope that the dealers will pass these savings on to people like you. If you would like to chat further about this, you can contact me at daryl [dot] chambers [at] solarpower [dot] net [dot] au Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 13Apr 13, 2009 9:44 am Hi Daryl I've just shown this thread to my husband and he is more than keen to get the solar power system installed on our new house. Problem is: we haven't a house yet! LOL The slab is about to be poured, but we don't anticipate the house to be ready until October/November. Are we able to apply for the grant now, and if we get approved arrange for the solar power system to be installed after the roof is on/ house is built? Also, do you have approved installers in Melbourne? Thanks so much for your time Meghan Building a Modified Lawson Modern 29 @ Botanic Ridge, Cranbourne South, Victoria Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 14Apr 13, 2009 10:17 am Hi Meghan Yes, you can apply now - the pre-approval system gives you up to 9 months to have the system installed. In the event of extenuating circumstances, the 9 months can be extended. We suspected our offer was going to be popular but we could never have guessed just how popular. Based on the response in the first few days of launching our website, a new priority has arisen - placing another order to get enough systems into the country so that nobody misses out. This means that finding dealers in NSW and Vic has taken a back seat for a couple of weeks but this is still high on the to do list. Cheers Daryl I've posted in your other discussion thread, so won't repeat what I've said here. Just one question: Shouldn't you know the ins and outs of the product you are flogging?? No one is going to buy a product based on you saying it's a good deal (well, i'd hope not). Suggest you might want to get that info from your tech guy - the first question I asked all companied I approached about PV was: What technology do you use? Where is it sourced from? and What's the installation warranty (as opposed to the manufacturers warranty) cheers Michelle Building in remote, regional Vic We have roof, frame, walls, plumbing, electrical....but no bricks! Re: 1kW Solar Power Systerms - fully installed for $749 16Apr 13, 2009 2:01 pm Michelle I am not 'flogging' anything nor am I a salesperson. Given how 'murky' the waters are with respect to solar power, we aim to be as transparent as possible. I believe compared to many of the other companies that are out there, we have done an exceptionally good job of explaining the process, the products and costs on our website. However, although the company is over 5 years old, this website is only 6 days old and based on the questions we are receiving from people like yourself, we are working hard to update the content so that potential customers will be left with no questions or doubts about our products, our organisation and its ethos. DarylC The unit normally clips into a metal plate screwed to the wall, either plate is not flush, or unit not hooked in and could be hanging from the pipes partly, either might… 2 15794 Would also like an opinion from anyone that has used xcem over hebel for floors.
