Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 28, 2007 9:02 pm we have been told that we will be charged 250 for making a few changes to our colour selections (just door handles really). currently we are at the stage where we need to sign our final colour selections and drawings. just wondering if anyone has been charged any fees for changing anything on their contracts, i didnt realise that changes couldnt be made at this stage without being charged a fee... and couldnt find anything in the contract that specifies any late change fees... Re: fee for changes to contract during before signing final dwgs 2Mar 28, 2007 10:23 pm I'd be interested to know who the builder is. I think that these things are different for diferent builders - and a fee of $250 sounds like an artibtrary amount designed to deter you from making changes.
If there's nothing in writing saying that you will be charged for making such changes, I'd challenge them to prove why you should pay for such a small change. Let us know how you go. Cheers Perry Re: fee for changes to contract during before signing final dwgs 4Mar 29, 2007 10:52 am I believe its a fairly common practice - whether they have actually ordered anything or not Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: fee for changes to contract during before signing final dwgs 5Mar 29, 2007 6:49 pm If you haven't signed the contracts I don't think they can or should charge a fee for changing anything. If they've ordered things (not saying they have) before you've signed to agree to anything that's their problem not yours! The way most big builders make you pick everything in one day is rediculous. Since when does anyone go and choose anything worth over say $5000 on one day without prior information and being able to think about it?
I did like the fact that we were able to do a tour of our builders selection centre so we had an idea what we were in for and what we had to choose from. Even so, when we go back and do our selection, if I change my mind on something before we've signed contracts I will be jumping up and down if they say we have to pay extra to change it! I can understand charging after contracts but NOT before! Don't let them get away with it. ~Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: fee for changes to contract during before signing final dwgs 6Mar 30, 2007 10:06 am From what Chidylan is saying i think they have signed the contract - it sounds like a common fee for a post contract variation. This however was after I had done prestart & signed off on the original electrical plan. (ie signed my contracts). Also at time of prestart is was explained to me very clearly that there is this standard variation fee once contracts are signed. Re: fee for changes to contract during before signing final 8Mar 30, 2007 10:21 pm chidylan currently we are at the stage where we need to sign our final colour selections and drawings. Wouldn't the colours, selections and drawings be signed with the final contracts? I don't mean the deposit papers (pre-start?), I mean "sign on the dotted line" this is what you get contracts. Ray Second Time 'Round Re: fee for changes to contract during before signing final dwgs 9Mar 30, 2007 10:57 pm What I was told (not that it means all that much...) is that structural changes are not permitted after the tender appointment, and no changes are permitted after the final contract is signed.
Different things for different builders perhaps. I'll know more on Monday when we have our Tender appointment. Perry Been in a similar position and we decided to let the builder go. Some of the PSA money goes to engineering so we at least got those documents and they actually refunded us… 2 4562 i would suggest nothing is unreasonable for PCI. we did all sorts, including checking the hot water, checking all the GPO's had power, testing that the showers were… 9 79910 You talk about deletions, are they variations or PS and PC adjustments? pleas list them 1 12047 |
