Some financial commentators are saying that the FHBG is distorting the market and should be discontinued. They are saying that inflation is artificially being increased. JNR - Once bitten, twice shy. Re: First home buyers grant extension - probable... 5Apr 06, 2009 8:38 pm well the FHBG did nothing for us because we don't work in the building industry and we are not FHB. It actually increased our land and building price due to the demand in our buying range. But now that we have bought, I hope they keep it in to some degree. A thankful person is a happy person. When I first heard that I might be moving to melbourne back in Aug. 08 I started looking at real estate down here. I was hoping to build in Williams Landing and back in Aug. 08 I could have afforded it, if I'd been able to buy right then and there. 8 months on and I'm about 2 weeks away from settlement from the sale of my house in Canberra and now it looks like for any half decent land size I've been priced out of the market everywhere Williams Landing is now so way over my budget its not funny. Just in the last 5 weeks I had been looking at Manhattan Place in Tarneit (larger lots of 700m2) going back a month they were going for approx $160-165k. I went on this morning and the cheapest is $170k. I just wish I could get my hands on my money so I could buy a piece of land. One sales agent out in tarneit said to hold off until after 1st July, because he said there was a feel the FHOG wouldn't get extended and that land prices would come back down to the 'real' price. I've had 2 other people say this to me, but everyone else is saying buy now!!! So I'm a little confused and disheartened Does anyone think that if the FHOG doesn't get extended that the price of land will come back down to earth or will stay put or go up further??? If think if it is reduced, the prices will continue to grow for now. hard decision for you Eljay, I know... If I were you I would buy now what I could afford and take it from there in the future...
