Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 26, 2009 8:48 pm We are currently building an extension to the back of our house that will be a new kitchen, meals area and living area. To one side is this octagon shape which we want as a study/homework/internet area for the kids. Initially we were going to get glass doors going across so that we could make it part of the big room or close it off. Now that it's in the process of being built we think it would look better open without the doors, as it would close off the whole area too much. That being said our cabinet maker thinks it would look fantastic with box window seats around the octagon shape, but the builder says box window seats are 'old hat'. OUr house is an old 50's clinker brick. Do you think box window seats would look good or you're too locked in with that style and can't change the room say to a meals area or whatever later? Are window seats old hat? If you think you will get a lot of use out of them (and who doesn't love to sit on them, they are so inviting?) then get them! Also if your house is older style anyway then it would probably suit them. Unless they protrude a lot into the room and take up too much space, I don't see why they would prevent the room being used for something else (like dining etc)? Re: Our Octagon Shaped Room 3Mar 27, 2009 9:32 am Ive never seen anyone use their window seats, ever. Therfore they just eat up space IMO Re: Our Octagon Shaped Room 4Mar 27, 2009 9:50 am Clinker style house...octagon sun room...window seats...and a good book...sigh! Window seats with storage underneath for toys would be fantastic! If it's a room for kiddies using internet I wouldn't put a door on it. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Our Octagon Shaped Room 5Mar 27, 2009 11:47 am to_do_list Window seats with storage underneath for toys would be fantastic!.
