Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 24, 2009 12:28 am Howdy I painted a house once before , and the paint I used was white [expensive too] , and it turned creamy/yellow , particulary behind the doors near the hinges. Particulary in places that dont see much daylight. In the house i am in now , the doors are white , but not a bright white , and some are cream but I can tell its the paint yelowing.... Does all gloss white paint start to yellow? What are my options then for white doors and edgings? I can two pac epoxy the doors [take them off and do it] , but the edgings around the doors I cant do in two pack epoxy paint [well i dont know...can I ?] Maybe ceiling paint ? Ceiling paint doesnt seem to yellow. Can i use a water based paint to stop yellowing? cheers Noremac Re: does all white gloss paint turn cream then yellow over time? 2Mar 25, 2009 3:03 pm There is a product called aquaenamel that is a water based finish and doesn't yellow over time. Historically, oil based gloss paints in the past yellowed over time. I've used the aquaenamel on my skirts and arch's, and it's less "runny" than oil based. Haymes have a new water based enamel paint that doesnt yellow. However being waterbased the gloss level isnt that same as oil based paint. Apparently this stops the yellowing process! I'm yet to try this out, and instead I'm using Aquanamel... Seems like a brilliant product to me, and gives you a true white out of the can! There are some tricks to it though... Work quickly, very quickly, and lightly... 3 light coats will give you a better result than 2 normal coats! Don't even attempt it on a warm day... It dries too quickly! Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE.
