Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 10, 2009 4:14 pm The search button lives up in the discussion tools box in the top right hand corner. Let's start using it.
There's a new "colorbond or tiles" thread every couple of days. Other topics are continually repeated, that's just one example. Apart from the same information being continually posted over and over, it also means that the great information and advice is spread out all over the place, rather than easy to find. Search before posting a new topic, just to see if it's already been covered. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Let's Use The Search Button 2Mar 10, 2009 4:17 pm Thanks Jo!
Should bump this thread every now and then too...new members don't realise or sometimes we just don't remember....too busy reading the wealth of knowledge on here perhaps! Re: Let's Use The Search Button 5Mar 10, 2009 4:47 pm Whilst I COMPLETLY agree with you Joles,
Just a thought... Some things RE: Cost, change over time, hence asking a similar question that has already been asked before. Eg: One of the bamboo flooring threads you showed edtheved was 3yrs old, so it may not be relevent to our times today! I do agree to search first though, then if you can't find any information relevent to your question, then post away, I say! Building Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13002 Site start: 8th July 2009 Handover: 11/12/2009! 5 months total build time. 40 sqs of luxuary...Bliss! Re: Let's Use The Search Button 6Mar 10, 2009 5:02 pm I just picked two random bamboo threads to demonstrate a point...... out of the pages that came up. There's plenty more recent ones.
Half the time there are things being asked when there's current threads (e.g. posting in the last 24 hours) on the exact same thing. That shows that the new poster hasn't even had a quick glance if the topic is on the first page in that forum. Of course, if something hasn't been covered for a while that's different because things may change. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Let's Use The Search Button 7Mar 10, 2009 6:01 pm Good point Joles.
Now can you answer a few questions for me Are eaves good in houses? Should I get higher ceilings? Hint, hint, new forummers: those particular questions have been asked a hundred times Re: Let's Use The Search Button 8Mar 10, 2009 6:02 pm Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Let's Use The Search Button 9Mar 10, 2009 6:10 pm Yeah, and usually the offenders are noobs with 1 or 2 posts to their name, who don't thank people for responses and are never to be seen again after the question has been answered
I must admit that nowadays I'm really wary of replying to threads started by people with a low post count (regardless of whether it's been covered before or not), owing to the above. Cheers, Justin. The search functionality goes through every single contents that contain the 'keyword' you are using.
I raised this point in a previous thread, and the moderators decided to delete my thread. Re: Let's Use The Search Button 13Mar 10, 2009 6:29 pm It's easy enough to narrow down the search though by adding more keywords and clicking "search for all terms".
Also, I often click the "posts" option as opposed to topics to narrow it down. But the ability to search only thread titles would be good. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... h+function Did you do a search? Just kidding!! Yeah, its terribly frustrating, then again, I was guilty of this once or twice in the early days. Maybe we just need to put a lot more emphasis when new members sign up that they need to do a search. If a thread has been duplicated, cant it just be deleted and a PM sent to the user? Should more of us bump very old threads if we have more info re the specific topic? I don't think its on purpose, I think people just need to be better educated ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through!
