I would like to hear everyones opinions on Recycled timber versus new timber .................. I am talking about floorboards , posts and stuff to hold up a big pergola / entertainment area and beams which will probably be under and over this area. I'm a bit of a "that looks good", it will do " kind of person and have never researched this stuff before. I but have been told to search practical people with experience before going ahead with a project like this. again , I am open to all and any comments cause I'm new to this. Thanks , Paul Re: New or used timber ? 2Mar 06, 2009 4:43 pm I used recycled hardwood for the deck joists of my old house. They were originally seating in a school grandstand and i got them for a quarter of the price of new.
As they'd been bolted into place for so long and left to dry naturally they were the straightest bits of timber i had seen and rated well over what was required. It is a bit harder to find good recycled timber but i think its definately worth the extra bit of effort. Obviously it has its place and i dont think i will be using much recycled stuff in my new house but if i ever renovated again i would use it without a doubt.
