Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 05, 2009 2:01 pm I need to buy a Front Loader for my new unit and have been doing a lot of research both here and googling, but I am getting alot of conflicting information and getting confused. I am wanting to spend under $1000 and so would like to know brand you would buy and if you have had problems or it works ok.
I have seen the other threads and read, but thought a poll might be good. I will add Miele and Asko, but they aren't in my budget at the moment Re: What Front Loader would you buy? 2Mar 05, 2009 2:25 pm OOps, should have read your post before I voted!!!!! I voted Miele only b/c that's what I've got and I love it!!! My friend has an Electrolux, and she's very happy with that one! We've had it for 6 years and it's still working as good as the day it was delivered.
Sorry can't help you on cost as we bought ours in the UK and paid about 400 odd pounds for it. Happy at Home Re: What Front Loader would you buy? 5Mar 05, 2009 2:35 pm I have an LG combo washer / drier and love it. Although in the middle of winter it is a pain to wait for one load to finish before you can wash or dry something else (something that won't be a problem in the new home since we have a massive garage and can rig lines in it)
I have heard good things about Asko front loaders too. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: What Front Loader would you buy? 6Mar 05, 2009 3:06 pm I want a new washing machine, my one has a mouldy smell to it if I leave the lid down However it still works fine so I'm not going to be replacing it anytime soon unfortunately BUT if I were to, I would be looking at brands that have a high water conservation star rating or whatever it is called.
I've also had no issues with my Fisher and Paykel so would be happy enough to stick with them. 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' The F&P was good, but much rougher on the clothes and used a HUGE amount more water in comparison. They're probably better these days... Do the hard jobs first. Re: What Front Loader would you buy? 11Mar 05, 2009 8:03 pm fitnhealthy I have, but their report was more focused on the more expensive front loaders. What is classed as expensive? I will be in the market for a front loader in June when i move into my place. On another forum i am on a person who does repairs etc of washing machines said the following: Quote: Brands I recommend are: Electrolux (Simpson, Westinghouse, Electrolux) Bosch NEC I definitely don't recommend: LG Samsung Haier Nobel Heller Re: What Front Loader would you buy? 12Mar 05, 2009 8:04 pm Yeah, sorry not much help as we are also getting the Miele as soon as we can afford it - hopefully in about 3-4 months (probably use Krudd's bonus)!
According to Choice, for the size we are looking at, the Asko and Miele rated equal first (both around $2k). The only front loader for under $1k in the 6-7Kg class was the Samsung WF7708N6W. Based on the report the Whirlpool WFS1071BW (7.5kg or larger) is probably your best; it rates fairly high in it's class yet has a RRP of only $849. Good luck, Paul. My parents have that model. They are really happy with it. It was only about $500 odd after the$200 rebate. Re: What Front Loader would you buy? 14Mar 05, 2009 8:21 pm I was looking for anything under $1000. The Good Guys had Electrolux, Bosch, Samsung and Whirlpool all for under $1000, but trying to work out which to get.
I will look at the Samsung and Whirlpool models suggested... So it sounds like it might be a lucky dip a little bit? Dive in and hope for the best? Re: What Front Loader would you buy? 16Mar 05, 2009 10:57 pm We bought an Asko about 10 years ago, based on testing by Choice. (Where else do you find genuine independent reviews?) Because one of our family is sensitive to washing powder residue, the lower levels of chemical residue with the extended rinse cycle, with water usage still so much lower than most others, was a very attractive feature. We also liked the faster spin speed as we place clothes on an inside line more often than not, the low noise level, and the solid seal between the drum and the door.
Our one dislike was addressed in the next model released (more memories for storing the washing programmes that you set up). We had one issue with the Asko: it started periodically squealing. That was fixed under warranty and the unit has run perfectely since then. Yes, we extended our budget to purchase this, but given that we expect another ten years from it at least, and the lower running costs have now made up the difference in the purchase costs, we feel we were justified in doing this. If only all our choices in appliances were that successful! Sigh. Re: What Front Loader would you buy? 17Mar 06, 2009 8:00 am i got an electrolux based on the choice reviews and am happy with it.
picked it up for under a grand at rick hart. 8kg model. Has a quick wash function and a handwash function that i use all the time. Re: What Front Loader would you buy? 18Mar 07, 2009 2:20 am Working in mining, when I saw the post topic, I immediately thought of one of these front end loaders
