How did it go? Have you sorted out the colour for the portico etc? Yes we did h2b, did you see us there???? We got there at 8ish and were still there at 9.30am but to be honest, we know the house so well and have been getting things fixed along the way, it was mainly comestic issues. Our supervisor is fantastic and has made the build a very happy event. So fingers crossed, all the little things that need doing and the driveway and appliances, we should be in very soon. We are also due our COO by email any moment. Have lined the bank up for the final payment and my first order of shutters should be ready soon. Oh kek, thanks for the idea on the readyhang temp curtains. They are great and dont look like sheets and they cost $5 and $6. So a real bargain. Hopefully with the shutters and blind coming over 3 months, they will stand the test. But for that price, who cares! I have picked up so many good tips in here and hopefully some nice new friends. I did my first house build many years ago but the excitment is better this time, I have made loads of choices and feel really happy about it all. Celebrates the end of my annus horribilis but onward and upward we say. We are now considering a more grey colour of Bedbox or something for the render. But I have also sent my colours to Michelle, to ask her opinion. Hopefully sorted soon. we are selling and moving to the coast, if you know someone who wishes to buy in Mernda Villages, please visit this link http://www.realestate.com.au/property-h ... -107083288 Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! At least you can paint a sample pot up this time kek Glad the blinds worked out for you. Ours were great, we still have them up on our bifolds. Must do something about those Romans..... Redi-shades? I think they are fantastic! Better than sheets. they do a gret job for a few $$ think I spent $70 for our house. I think Romans over your bifolds will look really nice Kek. Some drama in our street yesterday with the theft of a freestanding cooker and dishwasher! The SS was not happy Shame DH is away, he might have heard them. Mernda Villages 548Jun 03, 2009 10:51 pm Hi Nott, Thank you re my letterbox. I love it and am yet to see another one in the Estate so very happy with that. We wanted something different, and I think it goes well with the house......or not Bam, those bricks are so nice. Fojean used the same and she is also in our Estate http://merndahouse.blogspot.com/ I don't think they will be too dark, you can always have a lighter render. Do you have to have render too? What about roof profile? Do you have to have flat like we did or can you have rounded roof tiles? Going to bed now to read my book, I've just been having a ball with some girlfriends on FB I need to get up to Brisbane and have a weekend with them Happy at Home Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 549Jun 04, 2009 9:37 am Andy, cat 6! I hope they arent too expensive Toni, you're a wealth of info! 20% or 30% of our facade has to be of a different material or something. George is thinking stacked stone for our columns (strange, he hated it before) and Im assuming we will have some render. Not too sure what type of colour render/stone would go with a blue brick though... I dont want white or grey Fojean's house looks beautiful! She has a dark theme to her house though, whereas I want a timber theme (floorboards, windows, kitchen) and neutral colours for bathrooms, paint etc. Do you think it would contrast too much with the bricks? From memory we had to have a flat roof tile - I really need to check. I emailed Mark a few days ago about that blue brochure thing that you got with colours etc and he said that they keep them at the office so I can go tomorrow and get one (Correction day.... I promise Im only spending an hour in MV ) Time away with the girlfriends sounds good! I actually managed to convince George to come out tomorrow night with a girlfriend and her hubby Tis nice to go out, we never do... Mernda Villages 550Jun 04, 2009 12:15 pm hi bam, snhousealso used blue rain in the house, Quote: "App $1700 extra for a 38sq double storey plus hand cleaning costs of approx $1500." also shanem used the same and his/her home was shown in the brick' brochure as sample. Read that viewtopic.php?f=31&t=3737&start=20 hope it helps. nott Spring is here! Hurray! Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 552Jun 05, 2009 9:45 am aajinoz, are they digging for the sewer down near you? Bam, hope you have fun driving around looking at colours Stack stone sounds nice, I think we might do that on a blueboard wall on the fence side of the pool. I went to Slate Discounts in Doveton (drove through a scary suburb to get there) last Friday, they have some lovely colours in their stack stone. I love your timber theme! I'm the wrong person to ask whether the outside will match the inside, I don't think like that. Apart from the Alfresco pillar I don't see any part of my exterior from inside the house. And me being me would pick what I liked anyway, regardless Happy at Home Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 553Jun 05, 2009 10:59 am Ooohhh! Somewhere I have to add to my list of places to visit! We might even go together over the holidays at some stage if you havent already bought and want to go back? Im just about to head off to MV to look at the Blue Rain brick on a house there, and also to get a brochure for colours etc from the land sales office. Ive been given a timelframe because I have to be back in time to go to a customer for George And you're probably right about not worryig too much about inside/outside. Im going to try and focus on what colours match with blue rain (other than white/grey) for outside render, stackstone etc George thinks the brick is similiar to a house next to house - I swear he's wrong - that one is BROWN. Im going to go check that out too Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 554Jun 05, 2009 9:02 pm House-To-Be aajinoz, are they digging for the sewer down near you? Hi h2b, I hope so, as I put a rocket up them this week. I said I was going to take action as it is a health risk. We went up tonight and we have the beginnings of our driveway and path which is terrific, but as it was dark, we couldnt see across the road at where they are meant to be commencing the sewer connection. Every so often we see a mound of dirt being dug up but I think this is a diversion of the truth, as they are probably just moving it around to make us think it's being connected! Maybe when we move in and if we get an overflow we should relocate it to Stockland head office and see what they think about it all. we are selling and moving to the coast, if you know someone who wishes to buy in Mernda Villages, please visit this link http://www.realestate.com.au/property-h ... -107083288 Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Selkirk Blue Rain Little worried that it might be too dark though, and these kind of things are hard to tell if you dont see them in a large-scale. Early lookings yet, but I really like! Bam, I like the Blue Rain bricks. There's something about darker bricks. I like the Austral Zinc bricks; not that I'm having them. You can balance a darker brick with lighter render. aajinoz Maybe when we move in and if we get an overflow we should relocate it to Stockland head office and see what they think about it all. You'd have to pump it uphill. I hope they can fix it soon. I'm still working on the photos, slowly. I tried to take some pics the other day, but the light wasn't right and the colours were all wrong. The house will probably be built by the time I get them right. We had our colour selection this week; now I'm wondering what it's all going to look like when it's finished. Settlement is due to happen in just over a week, so things are moving along nicely. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 556Jun 06, 2009 8:09 pm House-To-Be aajinoz, are they digging for the sewer down near you? Went to the property today to select the final colour for the render, pergola and the infills. Our driveway is now fully laid, just waiting for it to dry and see the real colour. But it helped us make up our mind on Jasper for everything. I noticed a contraption that resembled a skinier version of the Pisa Tower near Bridge Inn Road. Mernda Villages 559Jun 10, 2009 10:35 am aajinoz, that you have your colour! How long till handover now? I saw your driveway on the weekend, looks great! I finally went to the Mernda Market on Monday (i've only been meaning to go for the past 6 months!) They sell everything there I had a wander around but was really after some screening plants and found some. Bought some good sized Pittosporum for $4 a pot (back yard side fence) and some Syzygium myrtifolia Pathfinder 7 for $30 - absolute bargain which will go down the front boundary and form a hedge over time. I think I will become friends with one of the plant guys there I moved 3 m3 of gravel down the dead side of the house, it's so nice not to look at the dirt now. Just need some pots for out the family room window and my secondary clothesline up, stepping stones and then that side is done. Fencing guy called around on Saturday, they hope to start the side returns within the next two weeks. Pavers chosen for around the pool, deck finished Great productive three days, well two really. Bam, did you manage to find any more houses with your chosen brick? Haven, not long now until land settlement Happy at Home Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 560Jun 10, 2009 11:41 am Yep, I love it but unfortunately George thinks its too dark. So we're thinking perhaps a dark brown/chocolatey brick, IYKWIM? I's be easier to work render colours etc with. And apparently the Blue Rain is a painted or coated finish or something, so its not good for chipping and stuff. I might go to Mernda Markets to look for some plants, as my collection looks dismal Im obviously not all that good at repotting or replanting (whats it called?) and need to get a few established plants or bulbs or something I cant wait to see your backyard complete!
