Mernda & Doreen Residen 3921Jul 03, 2012 5:57 pm The NBN rollout is being done in stages, mak - and so far only a very small proportion of the country has it. It's currently being installed in South Morang, but only in part of Mill Park Lakes and Hillcroft. There's data cabling work going on every time I drive through there. We feel a bit unlucky that it's stopping only a few hundred meters from our place. Oh well, we just have to wait patiently till it's our turn. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda & Doreen Residen 3922Jul 03, 2012 6:06 pm There's some info on the rollout here: http://www.nbnco.com.au/rollout/about-the-rollout/communities-in-the-rollout.html?icid=pub:rollout:1yr:bod:all-towns-maps#vic I don't see Mernda listed at all. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda & Doreen Residen 3924Jul 05, 2012 9:38 pm That must be for preliminary infrastructure work or something, Buttercup. The NBN is only being rolled out to South Morang and Brunswick in the metro area in Stage 2, with Ballarat & Bacchus Marsh outside Melbourne. Tullamarine has just been added as the next area. Other suburbs In the one year rollout are all on the list I linked to. They expect it to take 10 years to do the whole country. Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda & Doreen Residents 3925Jul 07, 2012 10:11 pm it's just frustrating that the builder played up the talk on NBN when the area isn't even serviced. When I first rang Telstra they said "yup you are NBN ready we will sign you up and get u connected" sure enough. We weren't even offered an antenna as an option, weren't told "hey your house is NBN ready (at ur charge) but you can't use it for another 10yrs. You will need an antenna" gggrrrr would have saved numerous calls to telstra an looking like an idiot. Lol. They said epping is being serviced. You would think when they cabled they would service it as well. We have to deal with wireless gggrrrrr Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda & Doreen Residen 3926Jul 08, 2012 9:14 pm Anyone had trouble with their solar hot water roof panels?? Ours seems to have burst a copper pipe ( after being frozen? ) inside the unit and leaked water down the roof until I got home this afternoon... Going to call the manufacturer and TRY and get a warranty repair ( they have 7 year warranty on parts ).. anyone want to bet that damage by frost isn't covered... Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda & Doreen Residen 3928Jul 14, 2012 9:08 am Interesting to read about the NBN. our builder told us that as our estate was listed as being on the NBN we would have to pay about and extra $1k to get connected, but we probably wouldn't have any service for the first few months whilst we wait for all the exchanges to be built AND we wouldnt be able to sign up with any standards telstra(or similar) packages in the meantime. Has anyone else been told this? Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda & Doreen Residen 3929Jul 14, 2012 9:20 am luckygrizzly Anyone had trouble with their solar hot water roof panels?? The panels should withstand normal weather conditions. We haven't had any extreme temperatures this winter - just normal Melbourne cold conditions. So I would think consumer law would have you covered, whatever the warranty says about exclusions. A product has to be fit for the purpose for which it was sold - and they can't sell you something for a home in Melbourne that isn't suitable for Melbourne conditions. Our panels are fine (touch wood), been up there four years now... mak_ it's just frustrating that the builder played up the talk on NBN when the area isn't even serviced. I can't believe that Telstra are only required by law to provide "a service" and that it doesn't have to be an adequate service for the number of houses. But apparently that's the case. We were very lucky to get an ADSL port when we moved here, since we were one of the early residents. Now we're not game to change our ISP, as there's a real chance we could lose our port and have someone else on a waiting list grab it before the new provider connected us up. So we're stuck with our current service (which isn't great) backed up by wireless - I know we're better off than a lot of people, but it shouldn't be this hard. I'm tipping that we'll be in the Mernda NBN rollout because of our location (even though we're in South Morang), so it could be a long wait for something better. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Sunday morning...no hot water...lots of noise from the hot water tank then noticed the water gushing from the solar panels on the roof down the drain and over the sides. All the internal pipes are cracked so the whole panel will have to be replaced. While waiting for plumber I noticed a few plumbing vans driving around. This happened to many people on Sunday. Builders try to cut corners by not putting in frost protection and of course, most home owners wouldn't know to ask. It only got down to around zero that night and it's not like we live in Antarctica. I checked our paperwork and without frost protection the "collectors" are not covered. Even with frost protection only covered to minus 6. Registered intent to claim with house insurance. Insurance company said they'd had multiple calls on Sunday from Puckapunyal down to Melbourne regarding solar panels and other cracked water pipes. Rang solar company and they say we are covered but we'll see. Still have to pay a call out fee for the plumber as labour not covered. Still waiting for the company to have their plumber call us. Dare say they've been busy during the week. Mind you....my front grass has germinated and the gums I planted 2 weeks ago have grown already....so the frosts haven't been that bad. On the off chance I checked our address and they'd updated the exchange in the Doreen area. Bye bye horrible wireless and hurray to ADSL. Plus, given we didn't have a choice when we hooked up and that wireless was the only option, we didn't pay the break costs from the wireless contract. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda & Doreen Residen 3933Jul 14, 2012 10:42 am I've been walking in the Morang wetlands the past couple of weekends - I hadn't realised it was open to the public now. It was fenced off for years, but apparently was opened up some time ago. If you like walking with no traffic to negotiate (and most likely not another human in sight), it's perfect. Are we supposed to climb up on the roof and tuck them in with a nice fluffy blanket at night? How about manufacturers make the product fit to do the job it's supposed to do? Or suppliers provide the right product? Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda & Doreen Residen 3935Jul 16, 2012 7:36 pm Solar Water Panels... We rang Chromagen ( the manufacturer ) direct and had a plumber out late the next day who by-passed the roof unit and left. He suggested re-ringing the supplier to see what they were planning to do about the roof unit. No cost to us so far.... Clearly the solar component isn't up to the required job of operating within normal temp ranges, so I'm keen to see what they plan to do about replacement and if they are going to TRY and charge me for a new unit... Anyone else dealt with Chromagen yet? Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda & Doreen Residen 3937Aug 03, 2012 8:19 pm Just had a call from Chromagen..... Panel to be replaced foc.. very pleasantly suprised. No argument about liability, just a booking for repair and replacement at my convenience!!! Hope everyone has the same experience with their units.. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda & Doreen Residen 3939Aug 03, 2012 10:28 pm Yes, us too. Solar panel repair man due next week. We did get a call a week ago to say there could be a delay as they are waiting for more panels to arrive...wonder why On another note. Got woken up by loud noise at 12.30 in the morning a few nights ago. Look out the window to see a ute and 2 men loading a whole lot of crap into the builders cage across the road. Couldn't see rego. Cheeky b****rds. This morning I went over to let the builder know, as bob cat man was emptying the cage. He says it happens alot. He then tells me that someone had cut up a boat trailer (yeah..bizaaaarrreee) and left it on the vacant block nearby ...Now...last Sunday I was out the front gardening when I saw a man parked on a vacant block doing something with a weird sounding machine. Everyone would have heard as it was so loud and Sundays are usually quiet (except for hoons). I thought it was weird at the time given the block hasn't been scraped yet. Must have been him and in broad daylight! Ladies and Gents, step right up!
