The couple who have opened up the bakery need our support. My partner and I had a delightful lunch there yesterday and we would like to be able to do so again - we would be upset to think that comments such as yours would result in the bakery closing. You are entitled to your opinions, but before you voiced them so publicly, did you consider any of the following: 1. The couple who have opened up the bakery have risked their entire life savings on this venture. 2. They decided upon limited trading hours at this stage so that they could support the staff they have employed. Rather than employ large numbers of people only to have to let them go if things don't work out. 3. They will be making pies as of this week and the baker is very happy to tell you exactly what is in each of the products. 4. The bakery in Whittlesea has been in operation for years. I'd hope they have a much bigger range than a bakery which has only been opened for a couple of weeks. 5. We all moved into the area without there being a bakery at all. We should be glad to see that someone has been happy to give it a go. We have no vested interest in the place at all except that we had such an enjoyable experience there yesterday. How we know all of the above is that we spoke to the owners rather than turning our noses up and walking out again. Please have a little more compassion and understanding for people who are trying to give things a go. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 1568Feb 07, 2010 3:46 pm wakeboardandy well I went to the bakery again today (This time it was open).. and I was more dissapointed then yesterday... I think they are trying to win the guiness book of records award for world's smallest bakery. It was tiny.. Didn't have any pies only some sausage rolls.. and some small selections of cakes in the window... so walked straight back out and went to a bakery in whittlesea... first time I have been to main st whittlesea... bakery was quite nice... Though is dissapointing we still don't have a decent bakery close by.. bakers delight is good for bread and rolls but for cakes, pies, pasties, etc... nothing that isn't at least 8km away... I have to say I am with Vengapalace on this. I also went there yesterday for a bite to eat. I also have no interest in the bakery. First of all I am pleased to say there was no hotdogs.. it is a bakery people not a 7-11. I was a little surprised by the size as well, but it is a long time since Mernda has had any sought of bakery. The bakery is in a old bakery which is old house with the shop at the front and the bakhouse in a back of the place. It is set in a old style cottage garden lots of trees and great water feature. great place to sit and eat, also while I was there I was told any of the hot food can be purchased so it can be heated at home. I also spoke to the baker, and this is there second week, and slowly putting things on the menu. So they get things right. Pies are coming this week. Cab Sav Meat Pies, sounds yummy. He was also willing to tell you exactly what is in each item. Dont see bakers delight doing that. It is a husband and wife team and they have employed staff, so it great for the community. I am currently building in Mernda and did not even know where the main street was until that sign for the bakery went up, I am sure it will be the same for a few. Also this would have cost a bomb to set up. And until the local market, customers know they are there and baking, I would not be opening long hours either or cooking everything know to man.. a waste of time and money and also food. Good business sense. As I sat there eatting lunch they also kept on baking fresh food and bringing it out, another thing, a lot of bakers do not do. It was good honest fresh food, it was lovely sitting there eatting lunch .. it just reminded me why I wanted to move to Mernda. I was also upset to read you post wakeboardandy. You moved into a area without a bakery, you get a bakery and you are still not happy. I have never bene to the Whittlesea bakery but I am sure they have been open for quite a while not just two weeks. If you wanted a full range of services and stores when you moved in maybe you should have moved into a area that was more built up already. Maybe the Mernda area was not for you. Also next time you want a roll at the last mintute for lunch, and this bakery is gone maybe because of your comments, I hope you enjoy your drive Whittlesea. I think some people need to think before they post, as it could effect others. I say check it out for yourself, keep it in mind IT HAS BEEN OPEN FOR TWO WEEKS.. I loved it and will go again... Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 1569Feb 07, 2010 3:58 pm MerndaPD I was also upset to read you post wakeboardandy. You moved into a area without a bakery, you get a bakery and you are still not happy. It is just my opinion (people can go check it out for themselves).. I moved into the area knowing that there was going to be a bakers delight open in our estate.. which I find make the best bread and rolls anyway... but sometimes it is good to go to your old fashioned bakery with your fresh meat pies.. the place up in laurimar microwaves their pies, so I'm not a big fan of their's.. Anyway if something is good I will recommend it.. and if something is crap then I will say it how I see it.. And I won't be visiting this bakery again.. first impressions last, I'm afraid to say.. I don't see the need to support something if I don't like it regardless of the story behind it. MerndaPD If you wanted a full range of services and stores when you moved in maybe you should have moved into a area that was more built up already. Maybe the Mernda area was not for you. No need to be condescending about my choice of where to live.. I live in laurimar and woolworths is open till midnight each night, bakers delight is open till 8pm 7 days a week... so yes the area does have facilities with reasonable opening hours.. I have nothing against the owners and I hope they do well.. Maybe I'm in the minority.. But there were two other people with me at the time that agreed with me.. I just think you are taking my negative review a bit far.. do you work there? or are you related to the owners? Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 1570Feb 07, 2010 4:36 pm I dont think I am taking your negitive review too far. I just dont think you are thinking and taking into account this is a new business. Also if you took the time to not just walk out you would have found out some more facts. Also just in case you did not read all of my post, I said I have NO interest in the bakery, I do not work there I have nothing to do with it except being a customer... Good luck to them I hope it goes well, more support that a new business gets, helps them expend, improve, and also helps the local community. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 1571Feb 07, 2010 5:00 pm MerndaPD I just dont think you are thinking and taking into account this is a new business. Also if you took the time to not just walk out you would have found out some more facts. well having lived in this area for about 7 months, I have seen 14 new business open in my time at laurimar.. so I am quite used to seeing a new business open and have provided feedback on all of the ones I have visited on this forum.. mostly good, some bad.. I don't attack people for their positive and/or negative reviews.. I just state my opinion. And just some feedback as I know you are new to this forum, you would be better off just putting forward your own view rather than attacking someone elses. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 1572Feb 07, 2010 5:01 pm MerndaPD First of all I am pleased to say there was no hotdogs.. it is a bakery people not a 7-11. You have obviously never had a hotdog from an 'old-style' bakery before It's alright, you still have time to be edu-macated Im all for supporting new businesses, and understand where your angst is coming from but seriously - Andy's post is a Point Of View. And we're all entitled to one. Whether that be in regards to house designs, colour selections, or most importantly..... food And really, it got me thinking.... how many people would walk in and be disappointed at the limited range? HEAPS. And I garantee you that not all of them would hang around for a little chat to find out why they arent selling certain things as of yet. Their reasons are justified, but perhaps they should have considered how the bakery would initially be viewed and placed a little sign up saying something along the lines of "Thanks for your patronage - please come back within the next few weeks to see our ever-expanding range of goodies" or something? I look forward to seeing them expand, as Im sure Andy does too, we all like our bakeries! As for no hotdogs Me thinks the pregnant lady should send them to her local highschool bakery to see what they're missing! Mernda Villages 1579Feb 12, 2010 12:16 pm was just up in the laurimar town centre... walked past the indian shop and the sign is up now. It says Fully licenced and BYO (Wine Only).. I could smell indian food when I walked past.. windows were all still blacked out though.. And on the empty bit of land opposite the pizza shop (and still on the south side of hazel glen drv). There is a sign up saying shops and offices for lease. (They haven't started building them yet but obviously getting in early!). It says join Bank of Bendigo, Le Cellars Bottle Shop , Brazillian Butterfly (might skip that one myself) , Doreen Bakery and Dental Surgery (Might skip that one as well )... And obviously by the sign still many more businesses to come... Bottle shop will be good.. safeway liquor doesn't have a big enough beer range for my exotic tastes... Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 1580Feb 12, 2010 12:20 pm oh my...Brazillian Butterfly. Laurimar is certainly not the little country town we bought into many years ago now! Not all algae green. There are red types. So that's probably what is on the water. the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11978 Do I need to concern about this pattern of crack?
