Mernda Villages 983Aug 21, 2009 11:07 am Bam I dont know whether Ive mentioned this or not, but there's a resturant in Lalor/Thomastown called Dom's Bistro. Very family orientated, great prices and good food. We go every two weeks as our 'family' dinner with my dad, all us kids, George, and my brothers family. So 9 of us and we usually pay less than $300 for the lot of us, for a HUGE feed (not just mains). It would only take you 10-15minutes to get there. Its on Settlement Rd Yah for a site start soon Haven!! Mixed reviews on LaP I couldnt even hear George and we were trying to talk to each other, but if thats what people like then I recommend it lol Ive been to other LaP which were very good, I just do not like the one at MP at all. Does ANYONE know where I can find a 5x4m fibreglass pool?! Bam I love Dom's in Thomastown. We are renting around the corner and I am a frequent visitor. Beautiful food. I love the carbonara yum. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 984Aug 21, 2009 11:07 am I've eaten at Dom's bistro too. And I agree, it's great food , and you get a nicely sized portion not a speck on an oversized plate. Contracted completion date 24 July 2010. What's today's date????? I work nearby and always wondered what it is like. I'll have to make a trip there soon. I remember when Sizzler was nearby. Mmmm that cheesy toast they had...anyone remember that? Life is; then you tell yourself a story. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 987Aug 21, 2009 11:51 am House-To-Be Haven, we like LaP as well but the Restaurant at Mill Park is really awful, it has no atmosphere what so ever. Our favourite is South Yarra (it was the first Restaurant DH took me to on my first visit to Melbourne a long time ago) and we don't mind driving in there. You can't believe Sofia for quantity A really nice place in Eltham to go for Brunch or Lunch is Volumes, it's only 20 mins from MV. they have a huge range on their Menu and it's a very relaxing place to sit in. Grace16 put me on to it and it's now one of my fav's. I can't believe how quick the houses are going up in Central Village It's almost like every morning there is a new slab being poured. Yay Haven!!!! I've been looking out every day to see if you have a tap yet. Gee, they are just squeezing you in for August aren't they Roll on next Thursday Have a good day everyone, I'm going out to buy some pavers. I think I'm going to have to re-read the thread and write down all of the suggestions here so that when we move in we can try them out! We drove past Central Village a couple of weeks ago and things are certainly happening there! A block that we considered already has a slab and framework up. H2B, they certainly are squeezing us in. We thought it would be the beginning of the month. Anyway, keep looking for that tap! It turns out that I may have to drop into the area on Thursday anyway, so I can drive past and see if there is any progress. Oze, I remember Sizzler and the cheesy toast! My husband and I often went there before the kids came along. We were disappointed when they closed down. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! We're going again tomorrow night Doms has also opened up another place near/in Roxburgh Park... I think its called "Chaos". I really like it there too - HUGE indoor playcentre (similiar to busy kids etc), indoor bowling alley, live band and resturant. Completely different atmosphere to Doms, but I love it too. Shame its further out. Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 990Aug 21, 2009 8:04 pm Bam, if the noise level at La Porchetta puts you off, then stay away from Suga and Nova Vista as well.... Nova Vista has nice food, but service can be a bit patchy and thanks to the concrete/steel/glass design, it's incredibly noisy. It can be OK for lunch if you're there early and it's not too busy. Suga is just BAD - bad food, bad service and noisy to boot. The thing that annoys me most about La Porchetta is the "no EFT or credit card" policy. What is THAT about?? We went to Nathan Court in Bundoora last night for a Chinese meal - the decor is tired now, but the food was great and the service good. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 991Aug 21, 2009 8:11 pm Mernda 1 vs. Laurimar 0 The sign has been removed from Plenty Rd/Hazel Glen Drive. I wonder if it will come back saying "This way to Laurimar"? Council rang me today, the 60 zone is temporary until lights are installed later this year. Haven, yep they are just making it with you Hope they make up for it with the build. There's a few Bridgeport's going up at the moment and they are going up fast! So lets hope they are as quick for you. Happy at Home Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! We went there when it first opened, very noisy and baby meals! lol Never went back As for suga Where do I begin?! Our "final trial" of the place involved asking for Iced Chocolates with extra ice-cream (normal is the size of a pea), payed a small fortune to get it and got icecream the size of a grape The atmosphere isnt very nice, and the staff are plain rude (explains why my sister goes there all the time ) The Chinese place your talking about - next to Tsarakos Market?? Opposite the Safeway on Plenty Rd?? Extremely nice food, used to go there all the time..... til we saw a mouse run across the floor whilst waiting for our order Have been to Gorge Rd ever since! Mernda Villages 995Aug 21, 2009 10:35 pm House-To-Be oze I have to disagree with House-To-Be about Volumes. Yes, the place has a nice atmosphere, but the food is terrible. I've been many times over the years (mostly for coffee but dont get me started on that) and the food has drastically gone down hill and the service is non-existant. The last 3 times (and never again am I going back) the food they placed on the table was incorrect, too oily, undercooked, the list goes on. When they first opened many many years ago (i live round the corner atm) it was an awesome place. New owners now and the place is sinking fast. Wow. How different are our experiences? I loved the place and our lunch was terrific, service was fantastic. I don't drink tea or coffee so can't comment on that. I'm heading over there for Brunch this weekend with a friend so I'll see how they go then. I've been told that Rivers Garden Centre on Gorge Road is nice as well. Andy, sorry forgot to say earlier that Yes DeVoteD do stock Blue Ray's but I don't really know how big their selection is but I have definitely seen a wall of them. Volumes is my favourite lunch and afternoon tea destination with the hubby and the girls day out. They are expensive and the ppl behind the counter are just darn right rude at times but I love the place and have been going there before 2000 and then after 2006 when we returned. I love the gifts, books and the general Eltham feel of the place. And the food is lovely. Haven't been online for 10 days. Have been setting up our own business and resigning from my job. You may all remember they cut my salary at work by 40 %, so I suggested they might be able to find someone who wanted to earn that salary with a little less experience and capability than I have. Our colours are inspired by the sunsets we have seen here since we moved. Some people here will know I have a slight China and Pottery addiction. It all started in the UK when we used to look around car boot sales and antique shops and when we got here, we were quite sad that not too many places had a good range of the things we liked. So that is our inspiration and we are in business! Just waiting for our trading name dispute to be resolved then I can let you all know the details. Oh and WBA, Youcanns used to be good but gone downhill. We use the chippy in South Morang and sometimes go to Whittlesea but it is a bit of a drive. we are selling and moving to the coast, if you know someone who wishes to buy in Mernda Villages, please visit this link http://www.realestate.com.au/property-h ... -107083288 Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 997Aug 22, 2009 5:41 pm oze I've heard Rivers is quite good too. Might have to check it out soon. I've walked thru the nursery/store and really liked the atmosphere of the place. Rivers is a local institution. Many people in the northern suburbs have been going there for birthday lunches etc for years - it's a special place and great to have lunch overlooking the ducks swimming in the pond. When we were looking at land/houses we would call in every weekend for arvo tea - they do the BEST devonshire teas!!! Definitely recommended for lunch, dinner or especially arvo tea. ..oh, and nice coffee too. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 1000Aug 23, 2009 5:54 pm Dont worry, I think I would have been over excited too!! There's tank place on Settlement Rd too - Ive driven past it a few times. Where abouts is the one in UniHill? I need to find some time to make some enquiries too. We wont have much land, so we're considering an underground tank to possibly put under the driveway... not sure whether it feasible, or the amount of work involved. you can also get floatie type things which you can put underneath a raised house or deck or something (but you probably wouldnt want it under a deck.... especially if someone drops a cigarette butt or a glass or something ). And I also want to ask about what the options are for tank water - what can we actually use the tank water for (ie laundry) and once its been used in the laundry, can we then use it for the garden (like the setup this place has that I was telling you about) Anyways..... starting to ramble!
