Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 26, 2009 3:41 pm I asked for a quote from a picture framing place, and was AGHAST at the cost!!!
I have one picture which is 80cm x 60cm. We just want a plain black fairly narrow frame, no matboard or anything fancy, (the old frame was from The Reject Shop but they don't stock ones that big anymore, DAMN THEM!) and they quoted $160. We also have 2 pictures that are 10 x 15 inches and they quoted $201 for these!! What the!? (we want Perspex, not glass, as it's lighter, but apparently this is really expensive. I always assumed it was the cheapest option, as The Reject Shop use it and their frames are so cheap) ** the reason we're not going to the Reject Shop for the smaller, easy to find frames of 10 x 15 inches is cause I want nicer frames than the ones you can buy at that shop (and Myer and Target and basically everywhere I've looked) How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: How expensive should picture framing be? 2Feb 26, 2009 3:44 pm It's been a while since I got some framing done, but the big one sounds about right to me. The little ones do sound a bit expensive though. Do the hard jobs first. The easy jobs will take care of themselves. - Dale Carnegie Re: How expensive should picture framing be? 3Feb 26, 2009 3:53 pm I was horrified at the cost for framing when I went into my local store so I looked for places online. Take a look at www.frameshop.com.au. I ordered some really nice aluminium frames from here and it cost me less to frame all 3 of my pictures than I'd been quoted for one including shipping from Sydney to Melbourne. They're custom made so any size and I was really pleased with them. Re: How expensive should picture framing be? 4Feb 26, 2009 6:10 pm Oh good, thank you!
I am just appalled and shocked by the prices. Especially as about 4 years ago I got a pic (about 12 x 16 inches I think) framed and it cost $20! The frame is nice, it's got a proper backing and I think it's perspex or whatever (not heavy glass anyway). Weirdness. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: How expensive should picture framing be? 5Feb 27, 2009 8:48 am Buying/ordering frames to DIY is the cheapest.
I've had some large paintings of mine framed - anywhere from $150-200 at a reputable framer I trust. It gets more expensive depending on how many borders you go as well (I usually have double borders on all of mine) After 4 years - we're in! Re: How expensive should picture framing be? 6Feb 27, 2009 9:06 pm You know, I WANT to DIY, but I just cannot find the right sized frames!! This is why I'm resorting to getting quotes for custom-framing.
I simply want a Reject Shop style plain black lightweight frame with perspex or whatever it is they use for the large 80cm x 60cm picture. But we cannot for the life of us find a frame big enough. We've come close, but they're always about 80cm x 50cm or 60cm x 70cm or something...so either too small by a bit (but enough for it to matter) or the wrong shape. The picture must sit vertically. With the smaller sized pics, we CAN get frames of that size from shops, but they're all not frames I want. In this case, I DO want "nice" frames, not just Reject Shop quality or style. I want more ornate frames, though certainly not $200 ornate!!! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! STEFF62 Framing should be fine, but he will only be able to nail the baseplates in, I wouldnt think you can dynabolt them after 24 hours.
